Week 20

Week 20

Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!

Welcome to Round-up Sunday — Week 20 on Back to Basics: Christian living! This is your weekend look at the week ahead — a chance to see, in one place, everything the Lord will be putting on the table from Monday to Friday, and to come hungry for it. So pour the tea, open the Book, and let's walk through what's coming…

This week, two teaching blogs bookend the whole newsletter, and they belong together. We open at the very top with The Crowd Is Not Your Compass! — a plain word on why “everyone believes it” is not a Bible verse, and why a stereotypical answer is no shelter from a wolf. We close, right at the end, with Real Faith Walks The Whole Road! — a sweep across the whole week that ties every teaching together: hear the Word, let it form you, make sure you are real, let it flow, then open your mouth. Read the first to settle what you build on. Read the last to see how the building is done.

In between, the week unfolds step by step. Monday — Something to Think About: God Speaks His Will for You Through His Word! — a reminder that most of God's will is already on the page, not hidden in the clouds. Tuesday — Messages from the Outpost: When Christ Is Central, Your Life Will Speak! — moving us from page to person, where the Word becomes overflow, not performance. Wednesday — Write This Down: More Than a Badge: Are You the Christian You Think You Are? — stripping away the polish and testing whether the new birth is real. Thursday — Messages from the Outpost: Stop Storing Scripture: Let God's Word Flow Through You! — calling us out of the reservoir and into the river. Friday — Back to Basics teaching blog: How to Share Your Faith Without Forcing It (Teaching 5) — the natural next step on from Teaching 4, showing how a love-led, prayer-soaked, life-backed witness opens the door for the Gospel without forcing it.

Alongside the blogs there is a full YouTube line-up Monday to Friday across our regular playlists, our PodcastsBlazing Apostles, Saturday Conversations, and Back to Basics: Christian living — Unscripted! — and a News article highlighting two errors that keep being pushed as truth: “cessationism,” and the confident insistence that the unbiblical word Trinity is plainly taught in the Bible.

So before you scroll on, settle one thing: “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” [James 1:22 KJV]. Open your Bible alongside this newsletter, and let the Lord meet you in His Word…

Building Your Faith on Biblical Foundations! Discover core Christian principles and deepen your relationship with Christ through biblical teaching and practical application…

The Crowd Is Not Your Compass!

“Everyone believes it” has never been a Bible verse — and a stereotype is no shelter from a wolf…

There is a phrase that has become almost a creed in the modern church, and it needs naming: “Well, everyone believes that, so it must be true.” It sounds humble. It sounds safe. It sounds like the path of least conflict. But it is one of the most dangerous sentences a believer can speak, because it hands the keys of your faith to the crowd instead of to Christ. A foundation built on consensus is sand. A foundation built on Scripture is rock. The difference always shows up the moment the storm comes.

The truth is, most stereotypical Christian answers have not been tested — they have only been repeated. We hear them on a podcast, see them on a graphic, hear them from a preacher we like, and pass them on as gospel. But Scripture never asks, “What does the majority say?” It asks, “What saith the scripture?” [Romans 4:3 KJV]. The real question is not who agrees with the teaching, but whether the teaching agrees with the Book.

This is exactly the gap that wolves in sheep's clothing walk straight through. “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” [Matthew 7:15 KJV]. They do not enter the church wearing horns. They enter wearing the popular phrase, the trending teaching, the comfortable consensus. They count on us not checking. They count on the herd. They count on the believer who would rather repeat than read, agree than examine, belong than discern.

And the result? Converts — but not to Christ. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ” [2 Corinthians 11:13 KJV]. People begin following the man, not the Master. The personality, not the Person. The platform, not the Word. And because everyone is saying the same thing, no one feels the need to open the Book and find out whether it is so. The lie spreads not because it is strong, but because it is unchecked.

The Bereans give us the cure. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” [Acts 17:11 KJV]. They received with readiness — but they verified with the Scriptures. Not the speaker. Not the consensus. The Book.

Foundations are not built on what is popular; they are built on what is true. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” [1 Corinthians 3:11 KJV]. And Christ is found in His Word, not in the crowd's chorus.

So stop borrowing your beliefs. Start building them. Test every teaching, every clip, every quote, every confident voice — “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” [1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV]. If it stands the Word, keep it. If it does not, drop it — no matter who said it, or how many are saying it.

Be a follower of Jesus Christ — not of the crowd that says they are…

God Speaks His Will for You Through His Word!

When you open the Bible, you’re not just reading words — you’re hearing God’s will for your life…

The Voice You've Been Waiting For

God is not silent — He has spoken, and He still speaks, through His Word. Most of His will is not hidden in the clouds; it is already on the page. Scripture does not always show the whole journey, but it will always light the next step, if you will walk in it. Many miss His voice, not because He has stopped speaking, but because other voices are louder. Noise crowds out the Word. Selective hearing reads for permission instead of direction. Unbelief reads the promise but doubts the Promiser.

So slow down. Get still. Open the Book. Come hungry, and come ready to obey. The Lord is not asking you to chase a feeling or wait for a sign. He is calling you to hear Him where He has already spoken, and to do what He has already said. When you obey the light you have, He gives more. Pick up your Bible expecting the Shepherd to speak — because He does…

When Christ Is Central, Your Life Will Speak!

A lived-out testimony is the natural overflow of a Christ-centred life

A Faith That Shows Up on Monday

A testimony is not mainly what you say you believe — it is what your life proves you believe. When Christ is truly central, the witness becomes overflow, not performance: it shows up in your reactions, speech, integrity, and quiet, consistent obedience over time.

A Christ-centred life does not need to announce itself. It simply carries weight. The tone of your words changes. The pace of your reactions changes. The way you treat people when you are tired changes. The choices you make when nobody is watching begin to line up with the Lord you claim to follow. That is where a real testimony is formed — not in a microphone moment, but in Monday obedience.

Fruit comes from abiding, not striving. If the heart is being filled daily, the life will speak naturally. If the heart is neglected, the witness will feel forced. That is why guarding the centre matters: what you allow in will always come out. Guard your inputs. Guard your private life. Guard what you excuse. Keep short accounts with God. Stay tender to conviction. Follow Him daily.

More Than a Badge: Are You the Christian You Think You Are?

Strip away the label & discover whether your faith has real power—or just a polished badge…

A Label Cannot Replace a New Life

A Ferrari badge on a Ford may fool the neighbours, but it cannot fool the motorway. And a Christianity that is skin-deep cannot survive the trials of real life. Jesus did not die on Calvary's cross to give you a polished badge — He died to give you a new life. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. [2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV] Regeneration, not renovation. Power, not polish. Possession, not performance. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith. [2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV] The badge will not save you on the day of judgment — only the blood of Jesus, applied to a repentant and believing heart, will. Make sure you are real. Make sure you are new. Make sure you are His…

Stop Storing Scripture: Let God’s Word Flow Through You!

Start letting God’s Word flow through you into a world that needs it…

Hearing the Word is not enough. It must bear fruit & multiply…

There is a quiet danger in the modern Christian life: becoming a reservoir instead of a conduit. We gather sermons, books, podcasts, and study notes — but the Word was never given to be stored; it was given to flow. Hearing is not enough; doing is the proof. The seed was always meant to bear fruit, and the lamp under a bushel was always meant to give light. Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. [John 7:38 KJV] The question today is not how much Bible you know — it is how much Bible is moving through you to a world that is dying without it. Open your mouth. Open your hands. Open your home. Be the conduit. Let it flow…

How to Share Your Faith Without Forcing It (Teaching 5)

Living and speaking in a way that opens the door for the Gospel.

A natural next step from Teaching 4

Many believers love Jesus, read their Bibles, pray, and turn up faithfully on Sunday — but go quiet the moment a colleague, neighbour, or family member needs to hear about Christ. The issue isn't usually unbelief; it's that no one has shown us a simple, biblical way to open our mouths. This teaching shows how. Not pressure. Not performance. Not panic. But a love-led, prayer-soaked, life-backed witness. Pray for the people you see most. Live a quiet, consistent sermon. Listen well. Speak Jesus simply by sharing what He has done for you. Don't aim for impressive — aim for faithful. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation. [Romans 1:16 KJV]

False Doctrine on the Rise: Two Errors I've Met This Week

Two old errors keep being pushed as truth — "cessationism" and the unbiblical word "Trinity." Both sound clever. Neither stands up to Scripture…

This week I’ve been looking at two themes that keep landing in print, in pulpit clips, in private messages, and across social media and YouTube: the claim that the manifestations of the Spirit died with the apostles, and the confident insistence that the word Trinity is plainly taught in the Bible. Both need answering — plainly, practically, and from the Word.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. [Isaiah 8:20 KJV]

Real Faith Walks The Whole Road!

From God's Word, to your inner life, to your daily walk, to the world that needs Him — this is the journey…

When you stand back and look at the week we have walked through together on Back to Basics: Christian living, a single picture begins to emerge. It is not five separate lessons stitched together. It is one journey. The journey of a real faith — the kind the New Testament describes, the kind that begins in the Word, takes root in the heart, shows up in the life, and overflows to the world. Anything less than that is not yet the full Christian walk; it is just a stage of it.

It begins, as it always must, with the Word. God Speaks His Will for You Through His Word! sets the foundation: most of God's will is not hiding in the clouds, it is already on the page, and the Lord is calling you to hear before you ask Him to show. “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” [Psalm 119:89 KJV]. If your faith does not start in the Book, it will not stand outside of it.

But hearing is only the doorway. When Christ Is Central, Your Life Will Speak! takes us into the heart — because the Word is not given just to inform you, it is given to form you. A lived-out testimony is not performance; it is overflow. The tone of your reactions, the quiet of your private life, the way you treat people when you are tired — that is where the Word begins proving itself in you. “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” [Matthew 12:34 KJV].

That naturally raises the question of reality. More Than a Badge: Are You the Christian You Think You Are? tests the foundation. A Ferrari badge on a Ford does not make a Ferrari, and a label is not a new birth. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature” [2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV]. Make sure your faith is not skin-deep. Make sure it is His.

Then it must move. Stop Storing Scripture: Let God's Word Flow Through You! warns of the believer who quietly becomes a reservoir instead of a conduit. The Word was never given to be hoarded; it was given to flow. “Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” [John 7:38 KJV]. A faith that only fills you and never spills out of you has stopped halfway.

And finally, it speaks. How to Share Your Faith Without Forcing It (Teaching 5) shows the natural outcome of all of the above — not pressure, not performance, not panic, but a love-led, prayer-soaked, life-backed witness. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation” [Romans 1:16 KJV].

That is the road. Hear the Word. Let it form you. Make sure you are real. Let it flow. Then open your mouth. Each step needs the one before it, and each step leads to the next. Skip any of them and the journey stalls; walk them all and you will find yourself becoming the kind of Christian heaven uses and earth needs.

So this week, don't pick favourites — walk the whole road. The Lord is not after a part of you. He is after all of you. “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” [James 1:22 KJV]

With Christ's love,

Dave & Elaine
