Week 30
Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!
Welcome to Week 30. This week we pull back the curtain on the enemy's oldest trick: deception — not the obvious kind, but the dressed-up, church-clothed, sounds-almost-right kind that catches sleeping saints off guard.
Across the week we open it up plainly. Monday we name The Great Deception — the lie that wears the face of light. Tuesday we expose the enemy's Camouflage and learn to see him. Wednesday we ask Who Are We Really Fighting? — for the battle was never flesh and blood. Thursday we plant our feet on the truth that Truth Defeats Lies. And Friday we close the teaching week with Part 3 — The Word in the Hands of a Man — the sword that sends every lie running.
There is more besides: fresh videos across our YouTube playlists, the Messages from the Outpost shorts, our Blazing Apostles and Saturday Conversations podcasts, and a word in our News section on seeking His will above our own nature. We open and close with two companion teachings — Rooted and Grounded to start you off, and Watch and Pray to send you on your way.
So settle in. Read it, search it, and — above all — do it. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV].
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine

Rooted and Grounded: The Faith No Lie Can Shake
When the storm of deception breaks, only a faith with roots will stand…
Two men built. Two houses rose. From the outside they looked identical — same walls, same roof, same fresh coat of paint. Then the rain came, the floods rose, the winds beat upon both. One stood. One fell. The difference was never in the weather; it was in the foundation. Every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand [Matthew 7:26 KJV].
This week we have looked deception full in the face — the great deception, the camouflage, the real enemy behind it. Now comes the question that matters most: what are you built on?
A tree does not fight the wind with its branches. It stands by what no one sees — its roots. Paul prayed that believers would be rooted and grounded in love [Ephesians 3:17 KJV], and rooted and built up in him [Colossians 2:7 KJV]. Feed daily on the Word and your roots go down deep — past feelings, past opinion, past the shifting soil of the age. When deception blows, you do not bend.
Shallow faith is the deceiver's playground. A Christian who knows a handful of verses but never digs is easily uprooted. But a believer grounded in Scripture has an answer for every lie, because the truth already lives within.
God is not afraid of your faith being tested; He allows it, because tested faith is proven faith. That the trial of your faith... might be found unto praise and honour and glory [1 Peter 1:7 KJV]. Every storm that fails to move you is proof your house sits on the Rock. Do not resent the test. Welcome it. It shows you what you are standing on while there is still time to change.
Foundations are laid before the storm, never during it. No man digs roots in the middle of a flood. So build now — a fixed time, a fixed place, the open Bible, day by day. Walk worthy of the Lord, being fruitful in every good work [Colossians 1:10 KJV]. The deception is coming for everyone. Only the grounded will stand…

The Great Deception!
When the lie wears the face of light, only the Word will save you…

When deception comes dressed as light
The great deception of our day does not look evil — it looks spiritual. It dresses up as church, as reason, even as love. It comes through new gospels, worldly churches, self-as-god philosophies, and comfortable "God just wants me happy" lies. But the Lord Jesus warned us first: take heed that no man deceive you. The only antidote is the Word — read it, search it, stand on it, and do it. A Christian who knows the Word and walks the Word cannot be moved…

Camouflage…
How the enemy hides in plain sight — and how the believer learns to see him…

Camouflage in plain sight
The devil rarely attacks in the open; he blends in, dressing his lies as light and his workers as servants of Christ. Outside the church he blinds; inside the church he distracts, discourages, and looks for a foothold. His whole power depends on not being seen. The believer strips away the camouflage by knowing the real Word, putting on the whole armour of God, submitting to the Lord, and staying awake. See him clearly, and he runs…

Who Are We Really Fighting?
The battle is not against churches or people — it's against the blindness behind them…

The real enemy isn’t flesh and blood
The fight was never with churches or people, but with the spiritual blindness the enemy has cast over the modern church — leaving many content to wear the name without ever knowing the Lord. The answer isn't anger; it's truth. Read the Word for yourself, test what you're taught, and walk it out daily, so that none are left devastated on the day the trick is finally exposed…

Truth Defeats Lies!
Standing firm on God's Word when the world chooses deception…

Truth in Action: Standing Firm in a World of Deception
In a world filled with deception, one truth remains: truth defeats lies. Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6 KJV). Truth is not merely an idea; truth is found in Christ Himself.
Satan has questioned God's Word from the beginning: "Yea, hath God said?" (Genesis 3:1 KJV). His strategy has not changed. He still casts doubt on Scripture and offers attractive falsehoods in its place.
But lies cannot stand against God's Word. "Thy word is true from the beginning" (Psalm 119:160 KJV). When Jesus faced temptation, He answered with, "It is written" (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10 KJV) — and every lie fell.
So we hold fast. We test every teaching by Scripture, refuse compromise, and proclaim the truth boldly. "Buy the truth, and sell it not" (Proverbs 23:23 KJV). Truth has already won. Stand firm, speak plainly, and trust the Word that God has preserved forever…

Part 3 — The Word in the Hands of a Man
The Bible is not a book on the shelf. It is the sword in your hand…

Starting point
A Christian man without his Bible is unarmed, lost, and starving. The Word of God is his weapon against the enemy, his map through life, and his daily meal for his soul. It is God-breathed, God-preserved, and the final authority over feelings, culture, opinions, and self. Walking worthy of the Lord is impossible without being shaped by the Word, and being shaped by the Word is impossible without a habit — a fixed time, a fixed place, a fixed chapter, day and night. Put the Word into a man's hands and watch him grow. Take it out, and watch him drift…

The Answer Is Often Right in Front of You
Why the will of God is missed — not because it is hidden, but because our nature gets in the way…
Here is something worth stopping for this week. So often the answer we are searching for is not far off, not locked away, not waiting on some future revelation — it is right in front of us. The trouble is not that God has hidden His will; the trouble is that our natural nature keeps getting in the way of the spiritual answer He has already given.
Scripture is blunt about this. The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him [1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV]. Left to ourselves, we reach for the obvious, the comfortable, the lazy option — the thing that costs us least. But the will of God is spiritually discerned, and it is often the very thing our flesh would rather avoid.
Paul draws the line clearly: the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other [Galatians 5:17 KJV]. Two natures, pulling two ways. Every day we choose which one leads. Revert to the natural, and we drift back into old habits, old thinking, old excuses. Walk in the Spirit, and we find the path God marked out all along.
That is why Paul pleads with us not to be squeezed into the world's mould: be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God [Romans 12:2 KJV]. A renewed mind sees what a natural mind misses. The will of God does not become clearer by cleverness; it becomes clearer by surrender.
So do not be lazy. Do not settle for the answer that suits your flesh and call it guidance. Seek His will at all times — in the small decisions as much as the large. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths [Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV]. Lean on your own understanding and you will end up somewhere God never sent you. Acknowledge Him, and He steers you home.
The goal is not merely to be right; it is to end up in the place He wants you to be. That takes a daily death to self and a daily yes to the Spirit. Set aside the natural response. Ask the harder question: not what do I want? but what does the Lord want? Then do it. The answer really may be staring you in the face — waiting only for a heart willing to obey…
Going Live! — Livestream Update?
For a long time now, our unstable internet connection has held us back from bringing you the live content we've longed to share. Well, after all this time, we think we may finally have it sorted.
We're not making any grand promises yet — we want to be sure it holds first. So please bear with us a little longer while we put it to the test. If it stands, livestreaming will open a wonderful new door for the ministry: a way to gather around the Word together, live.
In the meantime, you'll likely keep seeing the odd very short video pop up and then disappear again. Please don't be puzzled by it — that's simply part of the figuring-out process as we test and tweak things behind the scenes. Our apologies if it gets a little confusing for a while; it won't be for long.
Thank you, as ever, for your patience as we keep moving forward into this next step of providing live content for you here at Back to Basics: Christian living…

Watch and Pray: Staying Awake on the Journey
The Christian life is a walk, not a wait — keep your eyes open and your feet moving…
The Christian life was never meant to be lived sitting down. It is a walk — walk in the Spirit [Galatians 5:16 KJV], walk worthy [Colossians 1:10 KJV], walk in the light [1 John 1:7 KJV]. A walk means movement, direction, and daily effort. This week we saw how the enemy hides along the road, dressed as light. That is exactly why the journey calls for open eyes and moving feet.
Our Lord gave a plain command in the garden: Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation [Matthew 26:41 KJV]. Deception does its best work on sleeping saints. The believer who drifts, who stops watching, who lets prayer grow cold, becomes an easy target. So stay awake. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour [1 Peter 5:8 KJV]. Watching is not fear; it is faith with its eyes open.
A journey is made of single steps, and every step is a choice to obey. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV]. You do not need to see the whole road; you need to take the next faithful step. Obey what you already know, and God lights the step after. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path [Psalm 119:105 KJV] — a lamp for the step, not a floodlight for the mile.
No soldier walks through enemy country unarmed. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil [Ephesians 6:11 KJV]. Truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit — put them on in the morning and keep them on all day. The journey is not a stroll; it is a march through contested ground. But the One who called you walks with you, and He does not lose His travellers…
