Back to Basics: A 31‑Day Christian Living Reading Plan…

How to use this monthly reading plan

This plan is simple on purpose — one short passage a day, one honest question to walk out. The aim is not more information; the aim is obedience. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV].

Here is how to get the most out of these thirty-one days:

  1. Set a time and a place. Mornings are ideal, but the best time is the one you will actually keep.
  2. Open in prayer. Ask the Lord to speak before you read a single word — Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law [Psalm 119:18 KJV].
  3. Read slowly. Read the passage twice — once to hear it, and once to weigh it.
  4. Answer the "Walk it out" prompt honestly. Write it down. One clear sentence is enough.
  5. Do the one thing. Before the day ends, take the step the Lord has shown you. Small obedience beats big intentions.
  6. Close in prayer. Thank Him, confess anything He has exposed, and ask for strength for tomorrow.
  7. Memorise the verse. Write it out once, say it aloud twice, then revisit it at lunch and before bed.

If you miss a day, do not quit — simply pick up where you left off. This is a walk, not a race. The goal of this month is a changed life, not a completed checklist.

💡
🔥A tip before you begin: keep a notebook near your Bible. Write the date, the verse, one thing God showed you, and one step of obedience. By Day 31, you will have a month of God's dealings with your own heart — and that is worth far more than head-knowledge…

A word as you close the month

You have spent a month sitting under the Word, answering honest questions, and — by His grace — taking real steps of obedience. Do not stop here. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him [Colossians 2:6 KJV].

Before you move on, take a few quiet minutes to review:

  • What has the Lord revealed about Himself this month?
  • What has He revealed about you?
  • What one area of obedience must carry into next month?
  • What sin, habit, or thought-pattern must be put away for good?

Then begin again. Start the plan from Day 1, or take these same passages and go deeper. The Word never runs dry — we simply need a softer heart and a steadier walk. Blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it [Luke 11:28 KJV].

💡
🙏 A closing prayer: Father, thank You for every word You have spoken to me this month. Write it on my heart. Make me a doer — not a forgetful hearer. Strengthen me to walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work. In Jesus' name, amen. [Colossians 1:10 KJV]

May the Lord establish every step, guard every prayer, and bear lasting fruit in you — until the day you see Him face to face…

Key Takeaways:

  • Hearing without doing is not slow growth — Scripture calls it self-deception. [James 1:22 KJV]
  • Build on the Rock by doing what you've heard, not just hearing it. [Matthew 7:24 KJV]
  • The Word of God searches, exposes, and equips — let it. [Hebrews 4:12 KJV], [2 Timothy 3:16–17 KJV]
  • Prayer is meant to be a daily habit, not an emergency button. [1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV]
  • Walk worthy looks like fruit — ordinary, everyday, visible obedience. [Colossians 1:10 KJV]
  • Miss a day? Don't double up. Don't quit. Return. God honours the return, not the streak. [Malachi 3:7 KJV]
  • The aim of thirty-one days is not a finished checklist — it is a changed heart. [Luke 11:28 KJV]
  • Small obedience beats big intentions — every single time.
