Part 3 — Seated and Secure: Raised With Christ
Raised Into a New Position
One truth settles our standing before God; this one settles our position in Christ — and together they form the ground beneath every believer's feet. When Christ died, we died with Him; when He rose, we rose with Him; and when He was seated in glory, we were seated there too. Paul does not say we will be one day, but that we already are: And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus [Ephesians 2:6 KJV]. That is an astonishing thing to say of ordinary believers who still rise each morning, go to work, and battle the same old weaknesses. Yet it is exactly what God says of us.
Notice the posture in that verse — sit. We do not read that we are left pacing the floor of heaven, anxiously trying to secure a place. We are seated with Christ, who has already finished His work and already reigns. The whole Christian life flows from that single fact. We do not fight for victory as though the outcome were still in doubt; we live from a victory Christ has already won. A soldier who knows the war is decided fights very differently from one who fears he may yet lose.
Set Your Mind Above — and Rest Secure
A seated people are meant to think like a seated people. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God [Colossians 3:1 KJV]. Position is meant to shape affection. Because we have been raised with Him, our hearts are drawn upward — towards His interests, His kingdom, and His will — rather than being endlessly dragged about by the pull of the world. This is not escapism, nor an excuse to be of no earthly use. It is simply living in line with where we now actually belong.
And there is profound security in it. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God [Colossians 3:3 KJV]. Picture a treasure that is not left out on a table for anyone to snatch, but placed inside a vault, and that vault set within another. Your life is hidden in Christ, and Christ is in God. For the storm to reach you, it would have to get past both. That is how safe the believer truly is.
Here the honest heart objects: “if I am so secure, why do I still feel so shaky?” Because security is not a feeling we generate; it is a fact we rest upon. And God has not left our security to the strength of our own fragile grip. The Spirit He has placed within us is the guarantee: the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession [Ephesians 1:14 KJV]. An “earnest” is a deposit — the down payment that guarantees the full amount is coming. God has put His own Spirit in you as His pledge that He fully intends to complete what He has begun.
Kept by a Stronger Hand
This is the truth that finally quietens the anxious believer: our security does not rest on the strength of our grip on God, but on the strength of His grip on us. Jesus said of His own, And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand [John 10:28 KJV]. Your standing before God does not hang by the thin thread of your own consistency. You are held — and held by a hand that no power in heaven or on earth can prise open.
And what God begins, God finishes. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ [Philippians 1:6 KJV]. He is not a builder who lays a foundation and then wanders off, leaving the work half-done. The same God who gave you the new birth, justified you, and seated you with Christ has pledged to carry that work through to completion. So our part is not to manufacture security by anxious effort, but to rest in the One who holds us, and to keep setting our minds on things above.
This is who we are in Christ: raised, seated, hidden, and kept. And a believer who is this secure is finally free to stop defending himself and get on with living — resting in the One who holds him, and setting his mind on things above…
Key Takeaways:
- In Christ you are already raised up and seated in heavenly places. [Ephesians 2:6 KJV]
- Because you are risen with Him, set your heart on things above. [Colossians 3:1 KJV]
- Your life is hidden with Christ in God — safe, not exposed. [Colossians 3:3 KJV]
- The indwelling Spirit is God's deposit guaranteeing your inheritance. [Ephesians 1:14 KJV]
- You are kept by Christ's hand, and He will finish His work in you. [Philippians 1:6 KJV]
Where to go from here:
If this has settled something in you, do not leave it at agreement. Take your Bible and read [Ephesians 2:4-7 KJV] slowly, then [Colossians 3:1-4 KJV], and let God show you plainly where He has already seated you and where your life is now hidden. Then say it back to Him out loud — raised, seated, hidden, kept — and go into your day resting on the strength of His grip rather than your own.
