What Are You Afraid Of?
How Fear Stops Us Carrying Out That Which We Have Been Called to Do!
Fear is one of the most powerful forces that can paralyse a believer and prevent them from fulfilling God's calling. Throughout Scripture, we see countless examples of men and women who faced their fears and, by God's grace, overcame them to accomplish extraordinary things for His kingdom. Yet fear remains a constant battle—one that can stop us from stepping into our divine purpose.
The Bible repeatedly addresses fear, not because God is unaware of our human frailty, but because He knows that fear is the enemy's primary weapon against faith. When God called Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt, Moses immediately responded with fear and excuses: "Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?" (Exodus 3:11, KJV). His fear nearly prevented him from embracing one of history's greatest deliverances.
Similarly, when the prophet Jeremiah was called, he protested, "Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child" (Jeremiah 1:6, KJV). God's response was direct: "Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee" (Jeremiah 1:7-8, KJV). God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called.
Fear manifests in many forms—fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of inadequacy, fear of man's opinion. Each of these can create a barrier between us and our God-given purpose. The writer of Proverbs warns, "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe" (Proverbs 29:25, KJV). When we allow fear to dominate our decisions, we're essentially declaring that we trust our circumstances more than we trust God's promises.
Yet God's Word provides the antidote to fear. The Lord repeatedly commands His people: "Fear not." In fact, some variation of this command appears over 300 times in Scripture. When Joshua stood on the brink of leading Israel into the Promised Land, God commanded him, "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Joshua 1:9, KJV).
The Apostle Paul understood this battle intimately. Writing to Timothy, he declared, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV). Fear doesn't originate from God—it's a spiritual attack designed to cripple our effectiveness and rob us of our inheritance.
What calling has God placed on your life? What ministry, relationship, conversation, or act of obedience have you been avoiding because of fear? Remember that "perfect love casteth out fear" (1 John 4:18, KJV). When we focus on God's love for us and His faithfulness throughout generations, fear loses its grip.
The question isn't whether we'll feel afraid—courage isn't the absence of fear, but obedience in spite of it. The question is: will we allow fear to stop us from carrying out that which we have been called to do? Choose today to step forward in faith, trusting that "if God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31, KJV).

The Narrow Path of Truth!
Silence in the face of error is not love—it is cowardice!

A Call to Action
In a world where truth is often dismissed as relative and tolerance reigns supreme, believers are called to walk a narrow path that demands courage, conviction, and clarity. This teaching challenges the modern notion that silence equals love, declaring instead that failing to speak truth in the face of error is nothing short of cowardice. Drawing from Scripture, it explores our biblical mandate to proclaim and defend God's Word, regardless of whether it's popular or well-received. The narrow path Jesus spoke of in Matthew 7 is not crowded or comfortable—it requires rejecting compromise, standing firm against cultural pressure, and being willing to face misunderstanding and rejection. Yet this path is not walked in harshness, but in the balance of truth and grace, speaking boldly yet lovingly, firm yet compassionate. For those who remain faithful to God's unchanging Word, there awaits a reward far greater than earthly approval—the crown of life promised to those who endure. This is a clarion call for Christians to refuse the spirit of fear, to anchor themselves in Scripture, and to boldly proclaim truth in an age of deception, knowing that their labour is never in vain in the Lord…

Ready or Not!
Standing firm in faith when the world walks away from truth…

The Call to Spiritual Readiness
In a world saturated with voices offering temporal happiness and personal truth, believers face an urgent call to spiritual readiness. This teaching confronts the seductive philosophies of our age—the relentless pursuit of pleasure, the rejection of absolute truth, and the embrace of moral relativism—all of which distract humanity from eternal realities. Drawing from Scripture, we're reminded that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces working to blind souls to divine revelation. Like a wise builder constructing upon solid rock, we must ground ourselves in God's unchanging Word, for the storms of unbelief will inevitably come. The world promises fulfilment without sacrifice and happiness without holiness, yet offers nothing that endures beyond the grave. As soldiers of Christ, we're called to know our enemy whilst trusting in the greater power of the Holy Spirit within us. Equipped with truth and focused on eternity, we must courageously stand for righteousness even when faith is ridiculed and opposition arises. This isn't about winning arguments—it's about winning souls through the transforming power of the Gospel. The narrow way to life stands in stark contrast to the broad road to destruction, and every person we encounter is heading towards one of two eternal destinations. The urgency cannot be overstated: judgement is approaching, and the time for preparation is now. Will we be found faithful when Christ returns, having fought the good fight of faith and pointed others to the only source of everlasting life?

Passing the Torch!
The Timeless Call of 2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV)…

The Call to Faithful Stewardship
In 2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV), Paul charges Timothy: "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." This verse reveals God's blueprint for perpetuating the Gospel through faithful transmission across generations. Paul envisions four generations: Paul to Timothy to faithful men to others—ensuring the Gospel reaches far beyond any single lifetime.
The critical qualification is faithfulness, not talent or charisma. The content is apostolic truth—the unchanging Gospel, sound doctrine, and practical godliness.
This transmission requires intentional investment. The Greek word for "commit" suggests deliberately depositing truth into another's life through time, relationship, and personal involvement. Jesus modelled this by ordaining twelve to be with Him before sending them forth. Paul likewise invested deeply in Timothy and others. The goal is multiplication—if every believer discipled a few others who discipled a few more, the kingdom impact would be exponential.
Today's church must ask: are we faithfully living out this mandate? Are we intentionally investing in others, or merely consuming religious services? Every Christian is called to pass on what they've received—being discipled ourselves, identifying faithful individuals to invest in, committing to the discipleship process, and releasing them to disciple others. When we embrace this vision, we create a legacy transcending our earthly existence, becoming part of an unbroken chain from the apostles to Christ's return. This is our calling—making disciples who make disciples, ensuring the torch of truth burns brightly for generations to come…

Every Day We Fight!
Standing firm in faith, fighting the good fight—every single day...

The Call to Daily Commitment
The Christian life is an active, daily battle requiring constant vigilance and unwavering commitment. From the moment we surrender to Christ, we enter spiritual warfare where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to stand firm in faith.
Our struggle is against spiritual forces of evil that seek to undermine our faith and destroy our witness. The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, looking for weakness. Yet God has equipped us with powerful spiritual armour—truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer.
Jesus emphasised the daily nature of following Him, calling us to take up our cross daily and deny ourselves. Each day brings battles—temptations to compromise, opportunities to choose comfort over obedience, and moments when fear threatens faith. We must cast down imaginations and bring every thought captive to Christ's obedience.
Our call to fight doesn't mean we rely on our own strength. We are to be strong in the Lord and in His power. Our victory comes from divine empowerment, not human effort. We fight from victory, not for victory, because Christ already won at Calvary. Through Him, we face each day's challenges with confidence, knowing faithful perseverance leads to eternal reward.
Every day we fight. This is a call to vigilance, not weariness—a privilege to serve in God's army. May we embrace each day with determination, putting on our spiritual armour, wielding the sword of the Spirit, and standing firm in the Lord's strength, knowing victory is assured through Christ our Commander…

Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2025…
Combat Mode: Living as a Spirit-Filled Christian in Today's World
Standing Firm: Living victoriously in a world that needs the light of Christ…
In our modern world, we interact daily with devices that operate in different modes—power-saving mode, airplane mode, silent mode. Each mode serves a specific purpose, optimising performance for particular circumstances. But what mode should we, as spirit-filled Christian men and women, be operating in as members of the body of Christ today?
The answer is clear: we must live in combat mode.
The Apostle Paul understood this reality profoundly when he wrote, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12, KJV). Our Christian life isn't a passive existence or a casual stroll—it's an active battlefield where spiritual warfare rages constantly.
Living in combat mode means recognising that we're engaged in a real fight. Peter warns us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8, KJV). The enemy doesn't take holidays, doesn't work part-time, and never switches to rest mode. Therefore, neither can we afford to be spiritually complacent.
But what does combat mode actually look like in practical terms?
First, it requires putting on the full armour of God daily. Paul instructs us to take "the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (Ephesians 6:13, KJV). This isn't optional equipment—it's essential gear for survival and victory. We must clothe ourselves with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17, KJV).
Second, combat mode demands constant prayer and vigilance. Paul continues, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance" (Ephesians 6:18, KJV). Prayer is our direct communication line with headquarters—with God Himself. Without it, we're operating disconnected from our source of power and guidance.
Third, living in combat mode means maintaining spiritual discipline. Paul wrote, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway" (1 Corinthians 9:27, KJV). We cannot afford to be spiritually lazy or undisciplined when souls hang in the balance.
Fourth, combat mode requires courage and boldness. Joshua received this command: "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Joshua 1:9, KJV). We're not called to shrink back in fear but to advance boldly in faith.
Finally, combat mode is sustained by remembering whose we are and who fights for us. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31, KJV). We don't fight for victory—we fight from victory, because Christ has already won the ultimate battle through His death and resurrection.
The question isn't whether we'll face spiritual opposition—we will. The question is whether we'll be prepared, alert, and equipped when it comes. So check your mode today. Are you in combat mode, ready to stand firm, fight the good fight of faith, and advance God's kingdom? The hour demands nothing less…
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine
