Wednesday brings "Choices & Questions", examining whether we're making the right decisions by asking the right questions. Thursday confronts a universal barrier: "What Are You Afraid Of?"—discovering how fear stops us from fulfilling our calling. Then Friday returns to essentials with "Back to Basics: Christian Living", unpacking the call and foundations of true discipleship.
But that's not all! Throughout the week, our YouTube channel will be brimming with content—from morning devotionals to thought-provoking shorts, from "Messages from the Outpost" to our "Write This Down" series. Why Do People Go to Church? (Part One)
The question of why people attend church is one that resonates deeply within Christian communities. Whilst individual motivations may vary, Scripture provides clear biblical foundations for gathering together as believers. Understanding these reasons helps us appreciate the vital role the church plays in our spiritual lives and in fulfilling God's purposes on earth.
Firstly, Christians gather because Scripture commands it. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" (Hebrews 10:25, KJV). This clear instruction reminds us that church attendance isn't merely optional or based on convenience—it's an act of obedience. The early believers understood this, as we see in Acts: "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers" (Acts 2:42, KJV). Their commitment to gathering demonstrates the priority placed on corporate worship and fellowship.
People attend church to worship God collectively. Whilst personal worship is essential, there's something powerful about united praise. "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD" (Psalm 122:1, KJV). Corporate worship amplifies our praise and creates an atmosphere where God's presence dwells: "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20, KJV). When believers gather with hearts focused on exalting God, they experience His manifest presence in unique ways.
The church provides essential teaching and spiritual nourishment. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16, KJV). Through preaching and teaching, believers are equipped to grow in their faith. God has established teachers and pastors within the church body: "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-12, KJV).
Christians need one another. The church provides fellowship that strengthens and encourages. "But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin" (Hebrews 3:13, KJV). We're designed to bear one another's burdens and spur each other towards love and good works. Isolation makes believers vulnerable, whilst community provides accountability, support, and genuine Christian love.
Finally, people attend church to serve and fulfil the Great Commission. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19, KJV). The church equips and mobilises believers for ministry, enabling them to impact their communities and reach the lost with the Gospel message.
Ultimately, people go to church because it's where they encounter God, grow spiritually, connect with fellow believers, and discover their purpose in advancing God's kingdom. The church remains central to God's plan for His people until Christ returns…

Spirit-Driven or Soul-Driven!
Discerning God's Will from Our Own Desires…

When Our Ambitions Wear the Mask of God's Calling
Are you truly following God's leading, or simply baptising your own desires with spiritual language? This searching message exposes the critical difference between being Spirit-driven and soul-driven in our Christian walk. Drawing from Hebrews 4:12 KJV, we explore how God's Word divides between soul and spirit—two distinct aspects of our being that are easily confused. Your soul encompasses your mind, will, and emotions, and whilst not evil, it can deceive you into believing your passions are God's purposes. True spiritual direction comes through your regenerated spirit, where the Holy Spirit dwells and guides. When believers operate from soul-driven desires, they often force open doors, seek validation rather than genuine confirmation, and cherry-pick Scripture to support predetermined plans. The tragic result? Devastating failure followed by blaming God for not blessing what He never ordained. This teaching reveals the markers of authentic Spirit-led guidance: deep peace amidst difficulty, alignment with Scripture, confirmation through mature believers, and the fruit of the Spirit. You'll discover how to recognise the pressure and anxiety that characterise soul-driven ambition versus the settled assurance of divine direction. Through biblical examples—from Israel's presumptuous defeat at Kadesh-barnea to the principles in Proverbs and Romans—this message calls you to take responsibility for failures rooted in your own decisions rather than God's leading. The challenge is clear: cultivate genuine Spirit-led living through daily surrender, authentic prayer communion, and learning to recognise His voice. Stop exhausting yourself running after your own desires and instead walk in the ordained works God has prepared specifically for you. Only when you're truly Spirit-driven will you experience the fullness of all God has called you to be…

Choices & Questions?
Are We Making the Right Choices by Asking the Right Questions?

Life is full of Choices!
In a world full of endless choices and competing voices, how do we know we're making decisions that truly honour God? This teaching explores the vital connection between asking the right questions and making the right choices in our Christian walk. Through examining biblical examples—from Mary's humble enquiry to the angel Gabriel, to the rich young ruler's misguided question, to Pilate's tragic failure to recognise Truth standing before him—we discover that the quality of our questions determines the quality of our decisions. The teaching provides a comprehensive framework for Christian decision-making, rooted firmly in Scripture and centred on six essential questions: What does God's Word say? Is this in line with God's character? Have I prayed about this? What would Jesus do? What does godly counsel say? And what are the consequences? Each question is unpacked with biblical references and practical application, showing how genuine enquiry leads to godly wisdom. We're reminded that not all questions are created equal—some, like the serpent's doubt-casting "Yea, hath God said?" or Pharaoh's rebellious "Who is the LORD?", reveal hearts set against divine authority. True biblical decision-making requires patience to wait on the Lord's timing, courage to act in faith once guidance is received, and humility to align our will with His. This message challenges believers to move beyond decision-making based on feelings, circumstances, or popular opinion, and instead to build every choice on the solid foundation of God's unchanging Word and character. When we approach life's crossroads with hearts submitted to God, minds saturated in Scripture, and spirits attuned to His voice, we can walk confidently in the path He has prepared, knowing that He who began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it…

What Are You Afraid Of?
How fear stops us carrying out that which we have been called to do!

Confronting Fear with Biblical Truth
Fear is one of the most powerful forces that can hold us back from fulfilling God's calling on our lives. Whether it's the fear of inadequacy, the fear of failure, or the fear of what others might think, these anxieties can paralyse us and prevent us from stepping into the purposes God has designed for us. In this teaching, we explore how fear stops us from carrying out what we have been called to do, and more importantly, how we can overcome it through biblical truth and faith.
Throughout Scripture, we see examples of ordinary people who allowed fear to temporarily hinder them—Moses hiding behind his inadequacy, Gideon doubting God's presence, Peter sinking when he took his eyes off Jesus, and even the apostle Peter compromising his convictions due to fear of man. Yet in each case, God met them in their fear and equipped them to accomplish His purposes. The message is clear: God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
This teaching challenges us to examine what we are truly afraid of and to recognise that our adequacy comes not from ourselves but from God. He delights in using flawed, ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. When we understand that God's presence is with us wherever we go, and when we grasp the depth of His perfect love for us, fear loses its controlling power. The question is not whether we will face fear, but whether we will allow it to stop us from becoming who God created us to be. Step out in faith today, knowing that God is with you, and watch as He does exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask or think…

Back to Basics: Christian Living: The Call & Foundations of Christian Discipleship
Discovering what it truly means to follow Jesus in everyday life…

The Heart of Discipleship: A Personal Relationship with Christ
This explores the profound difference between casual belief and authentic Christian discipleship. Jesus' call to "follow me" requires total commitment, demanding that we count the cost and surrender everything to Him as Lord. True discipleship means bearing our cross daily, dying to self-will and worldly ambition, whilst placing Christ above all earthly relationships. The blog emphasises that genuine discipleship is proven not through momentary enthusiasm but through enduring obedience and continuing in His Word. Once we embrace this call, we must build our lives on solid foundations: abiding in Christ like branches connected to the vine, exercising faith and repentance, being baptised into new life, receiving and being continually filled with the Holy Spirit, maintaining fervent prayer, and nourishing our souls through regular Scripture study. These foundations are not optional extras but essential elements that enable us to bear fruit and live the supernatural life that discipleship demands. Ultimately, this teaching reminds us that whilst discipleship costs us everything, it offers everything in return—the highest calling any person can receive and the most meaningful journey possible…

Leading the Church Into Praise!
As worship leaders and believers, understanding the difference between praise and worship. Most crucially, we must remember: it's not about us.
The Nature of Praise
Praise is our enthusiastic celebration of God's mighty works. It's vocal, demonstrative, and joyful—an expression of gratitude for what God has done. Scripture overflows with examples: "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise" (Psalm 100:4, KJV). We recount God's faithfulness, His provision, and His wonderful acts with thanksgiving.
The Depth of Worship
While praise celebrates what God does, worship reverences who God is. It's intimate, personal, and often quieter. The word "worship" derives from "worthship"—declaring God's inherent worth regardless of His blessings. Jesus taught that "true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23, KJV). Worship transcends into a spiritual reality involving complete surrender to God's majesty.
It's Not About You
The most critical lesson for worship leaders: this isn't about showcasing talent or creating emotional experiences. As Paul reminded us, "we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord" (2 Corinthians 4:5, KJV). Our role is to decrease so He might increase.
Leading Effectively
Leading others into praise requires personal preparation. It demands sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's leading, flexibility beyond rigid setlists, and willingness to create space for God to move. Teaching and guidance help congregations understand how to approach God, while excellent preparation honours both God and His people.
The Sacred Journey
We begin with celebration of God's works and move into deeper acknowledgement of His character. This mirrors the tabernacle progression, moving from the outer courts into the Holy of Holies. As leaders, we guide people from where they are—often burdened and distracted.
Leading the church into praise is a holy calling requiring understanding, humility, and faithful service. When we serve rather than perform, when we prioritise God's presence above preferences, we fulfil our purpose. May we always remember: it's not about us—it's about leading the church into praise.
"Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD" (Psalm 150:6, KJV).
Welcome to Our Teaching Series on Christian Discipleship!
This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our "Back to Basics: Christian Living" teaching series. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring the vital topic of Christian discipleship—what it means to truly follow Jesus Christ in today's world.
This discipleship series represents Part Three of our comprehensive exploration of the Christian life:
- Part One established the foundation of Christian living—understanding our identity in Christ, salvation, and the basics of our faith
- Part Two examined living as a Christian—the practical outworking of our faith in daily life, including prayer, Bible study, worship, and godly character
- Part Three now focuses on discipleship as a Christian—the calling to follow Christ wholeheartedly, grow in spiritual maturity, and reproduce our faith in others
Throughout this series, we will delve deeply into what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, exploring both the biblical foundations and practical applications of discipleship. We will examine the cost of following Christ, the disciplines that foster spiritual growth, the importance of Christian community, and our responsibility to make disciples who make disciples.
Each week will build upon the previous teaching, creating a comprehensive understanding of the disciple's journey. Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2025…
Does Your Church Fulfil Its Biblical Purpose? (Part Two)
In Part One, we explored why people go to church according to Scripture. Now comes the vital question: does your church actually provide what the Bible prescribes? This isn't about criticising any particular congregation, but rather encouraging honest evaluation against biblical standards. After all, a church can have excellent facilities, dynamic programmes, and growing numbers, yet still fall short of its divinely ordained purpose.
Your church should first and foremost be a place where Scripture is faithfully taught without compromise. "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:2, KJV). Does your church handle God's Word accurately, or has it become more focused on entertainment and feeling good? Paul warned that "the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears" (2 Timothy 4:3, KJV). A church that truly fulfils its purpose will challenge you with biblical truth, even when uncomfortable.
Genuine corporate worship should point you towards God, not performance or personal experience. "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24, KJV). Does your church cultivate an atmosphere where God's presence is genuinely sought, or has worship become mere routine or entertainment? True worship transforms participants and glorifies God alone.
Biblical fellowship goes beyond casual conversation over refreshments. Your church should provide meaningful relationships where believers can "consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works" (Hebrews 10:24, KJV). Are there opportunities for genuine accountability, mutual encouragement, and bearing one another's burdens? "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2, KJV). A church that truly values fellowship creates environments where authentic Christian community flourishes.
Does your church equip believers for ministry and spiritual growth? "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13, KJV). A healthy church doesn't create spectators but participants who discover and exercise their spiritual gifts. Furthermore, it should actively engage in fulfilling the Great Commission, not just maintaining internal programmes.
If your church lacks these biblical elements, it's failing its fundamental purpose, regardless of how successful it appears by worldly standards. "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves" (2 Corinthians 13:5, KJV). This examination extends to the corporate body as well. Perhaps it's time for prayerful conversation with church leadership, or possibly seeking a fellowship that takes Scripture seriously.
Remember, the church belongs to Christ, not us. He established it for specific purposes, and we must ensure our gatherings align with His design rather than cultural preferences or personal comfort…
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine
