Read, Watch & Do!
Transforming our Christian walk through daily engagement…
We have never had more Christian content at our fingertips, and never been in more danger of mistaking consuming it for living it. The believer's walk was always meant to be a simple, three-fold thing: read the Word, let it be opened up to you, and then go and do it. Miss any one of the three and growth soon stalls.
Start with reading. Scripture is not merely information; it is our daily bread. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness [2 Timothy 3:16 KJV]. A few minutes in the Word each morning does more to steady a soul than a shelf full of books, for it is God's own truth going in — Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee [Psalm 119:11 KJV]. Read it, and let it renew your thinking: be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind [Romans 12:2 KJV].
Then there is watching and listening. There is nothing unspiritual about sitting under sound teaching. The Lord Himself taught in pictures and parables — with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it [Mark 4:33 KJV]. God has given teachers to His church for a purpose: for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ [Ephesians 4:12 KJV]. Faithful teaching opens up what we read and helps it land.
But here is where most of us fall short — the doing. Reading feeds us and teaching sharpens us, but neither changes a thing until we act on it. James will not let us off the hook: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV]. And the Lord drew the line plainly: whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock [Matthew 7:24 KJV]. The doing is rarely dramatic — it is forgiving the one who wronged you, speaking the truth in love, giving your time when it costs you something. Every small act of obedience builds the house higher.
Put the three together and you have a cycle that never stops turning: you read, you understand more deeply, you obey — and the obedience sends you back to the Word hungrier than before. Do it alongside others, too, for iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend [Proverbs 27:17 KJV].
So do not settle for being a well-informed hearer. Read the Word you already have, sit under teaching that opens it up, then go and live it out. Read, watch, and do — three simple things, one changed life…

You may have noticed the Round-up looks a little different this week. We have stripped it back — fewer boxes, less clutter, more room to breathe. The reason is simple. We wanted this Sunday Round-up to sit comfortably alongside our Saturday Christian Compass, sharing the same plain, uncluttered feel, so both land the same way in your inbox — easy to read, easy to follow, with nothing getting in the way of the Word itself. We have never been ones for gimmicks or noise, and the page should reflect that. Same content, same heart — just a cleaner, simpler layout that lets the teaching do the talking…
Where We Stand — and Where We're Headed…
A word from Dave & Elaine at this time of Back to Basics…
When Elaine and I first began Back to Basics: Christian Living, we made ourselves one simple promise — no gimmicks, no hype, no chasing the crowd; just the plain Word of God, opened, explained, and lived out. Everything you see from us, week in and week out, still runs on that one conviction.
And this feels a good moment to say plainly where we are. The Lord has been steadily building something here — not a platform, but a family of ordinary believers who want the real thing. Day by day the teaching goes out: Something to Think About? on a Monday, Write this Down on a Wednesday, the messages from our little Outpost midweek, the Friday teaching blog, with YouTube videos to match, the Compass on a Saturday, and this Round-up that gathers it all on a Sunday. It is a good deal of ground to cover, but the aim behind every piece is the same — to point you away from men and back to the Word, back to Jesus Christ, back to the Father, through the Holy Spirit.
If one thing is pressing on my heart at this time, it is this: we have never had more teaching within reach, and never been in more danger of merely hearing it. So over the coming weeks you will hear us return again and again to the same plain call — be a doer of the Word, and not a hearer only. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV]. That is the drum we intend to keep beating.
We are not here for clicks, and we are not here for numbers. We are here for changed lives and a lasting legacy — homes and communities built on the Rock that will still be standing long after we are gone. Thank you for walking this road with us; keep reading, keep watching, and above all, keep doing.

What If? Versus Trusting God!
When the natural mind battles spiritual faith…
We have all heard that quiet voice. It rarely shouts; it whispers. What if it doesn't work out? What if I fail? What if God doesn't come through this time? It sounds so reasonable, so sensible — but follow it far enough and it never leads to wisdom. It leads to fear. For "what if" is the language of the natural mind, and Scripture is plain about where that mind takes us: to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God [Romans 8:6 KJV].
Here is the thing we must see: our "what ifs" are seldom really about the situation. Underneath, they are questions about God — what if He is not aware, not able, not willing? That is unbelief dressed up as concern. The Lord met it head on: Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself [Matthew 6:34 KJV]. He is not telling us to be careless; He is telling us not to be chained to a tomorrow that has not yet come.
Think of Israel at the border of the Promised Land. Twelve men saw the very same country. Ten came back full of "what if" — we be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we [Numbers 13:31 KJV]. But Joshua and Caleb looked at the same giants and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it [Numbers 13:30 KJV]. Same walls, same giants, a different mind — and the difference was not the size of the obstacle but the size of their God.
So how do we come out of "what if" and into trust? We take the thought captive rather than entertain it — bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ [2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV]. We feed the mind on Scripture instead of fear, that it might be transformed by the renewing of your mind [Romans 12:2 KJV]. We remember what God has already done — I will remember the works of the LORD [Psalm 77:11 KJV] — and we speak faith, not fear, knowing death and life are in the power of the tongue [Proverbs 18:21 KJV].
And when your faith feels small, take heart in this: the victory rests not on the strength of your believing but on the faithfulness of your God. If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself [2 Timothy 2:13 KJV]. That is where the peace comes from — the peace of God, which passeth all understanding [Philippians 4:7 KJV].
So today, stop living in "what if" and start living in "even though." Even though I cannot see the answer, God is able. Even though it feels uncertain, He does not change. Trust Him — not because it satisfies the natural mind, but because He has proved Himself worthy…
