The Spiritual Battle: Are We Really in the Fight?
In today’s modern church, there is a grave misunderstanding about the true nature of the spiritual battle we face as believers. Many Christians speak of “good versus evil” as if the conflict is simply between abstract moral forces. Yet, the reality described in Scripture is far more specific and urgent: it is the devil, Satan himself, who wages war against those who are filled with the Holy Spirit—those who truly belong to Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12 KJV). This battle is unseen, but it is deadly real. The tragedy in the modern church is that many do not even recognise the fight, let alone engage in it.
Why is this? The answer lies in the absence of the Holy Spirit’s fullness among many professing believers. Paul exhorted Timothy, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life...” (1 Timothy 6:12 KJV). This is not a passive suggestion, but a call to active spiritual warfare. Yet, without the indwelling and empowering of the Holy Spirit, believers are unequipped for the struggle. It is not enough to attend church, agree with doctrine, or even have zeal for God—unless one is truly filled with the Spirit, they are not in the fight at all.
Jesus Himself warned of those who had a form of godliness but denied its power (2 Timothy 3:5 KJV). Many in the modern church are deceived into thinking they are fighting the enemy, but without the Spirit, they are spiritually unarmed. The Holy Spirit is not just a theological concept—it is the very power that enables victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. Paul wrote, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25 KJV). It is not enough to claim the Spirit; we must walk in it, daily putting into practice the presence and power of God within us.
This is why the church, in many places, appears powerless against the schemes of the devil. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 KJV). If Christians are not armed with the Spirit, they are easy prey. The enemy does not waste his energy on those who are not truly in the fight—he targets those filled with the Spirit, living out their faith boldly and obediently.
The solution is simple, yet costly: seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit, not just in word but in reality. Jesus promised, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you...” (Acts 1:8 KJV). This power is for every believer, but it must be received and lived out. The church cannot fight the devil with human strength, intellect, or programmes; only Spirit-filled believers practising their faith daily will prevail.
Let us not be deceived by outward appearances or empty declarations. The real battle is spiritual, and only those filled with the Spirit are truly fighting the good fight of faith. May we humble ourselves, seek God afresh, and be equipped by His Spirit to stand in these evil days…
"Something to think about" is a phrase that indicates there is a topic or idea presented that the reader should consider and contemplate, for further reflection or discussion. Published weekly on a Monday…

It's Time for War!
The Spiritual Battle is NOW!

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare
In "It's Time for War!", we confront the sobering reality of spiritual warfare that every believer faces. This teaching unveils Satan's strategic attacks through deception, distraction, division, discouragement and doubt—tactics as ancient as Eden yet devastatingly effective today. God has commissioned us as soldiers, equipped with divine armour detailed in Ephesians 6, to stand firm against these assaults. The battlefield extends beyond physical realms into our minds, requiring us to capture every thought for Christ. Though the conflict is intense, we fight from a position of assured victory through Christ's triumph at the cross. The time for spiritual passivity has ended—recognise the battle, understand the enemy's tactics, embrace your identity as a soldier of Christ, and take your place in God's army. The battle is NOW. The enemy is real. The stakes are eternal…

Back to Basics: Living for Him!
Sacrificing Yourself for the Lord!

The Call to Sacrificial Living!
In "Sacrificing Yourself for the Lord," we explore the biblical call to present ourselves as living sacrifices in a world obsessed with self-gratification. Drawing from Romans 12:1 KJV, we examine how Christ's perfect sacrifice doesn't eliminate our need to sacrifice, but rather transforms our motivation—we sacrifice not to earn salvation, but in grateful response to His immeasurable love. This counter-cultural lifestyle requires daily surrender, mind renewal through Scripture, and the development of spiritual discernment that grows through obedience. The beautiful paradox of Christian sacrifice emerges: in losing our lives for Christ's sake, we discover our true purpose and experience His indwelling power. Join us as we unpack this transformative journey supported by community, leading to a life that glorifies the One who sacrificed everything for us…

Staying True to Our Mission: Why Back to Basics: Christian Living Won't Chase Trends!
In a digital landscape increasingly dominated by sensationalism and controversy, many Christian content creators have fallen into the trap of chasing views and engagement through questionable means. At Back to Basics: Christian Living, we feel compelled to address why we've made a deliberate choice to stay faithful to our core mission rather than following this concerning trend.
Our commitment is simple yet profound: to build disciples of Jesus Christ through sound Biblical teaching, not to build a following for ourselves. This distinction may seem subtle, but it represents a fundamental divergence in approach that affects everything we produce.
One particularly troubling pattern we've observed across Christian media is the rise of content focused on "exposing" and naming supposed false teachers, often with minimal theological nuance or charitable consideration. Alongside this runs a disturbing current of conspiracy theories that have little to do with the Gospel but much to do with generating clicks and views.
We believe this approach represents a dangerous distraction from our true calling as Christians. When content creators prioritise controversy over Christ, several concerning outcomes emerge:
- It fosters division rather than unity within the Body of Christ, often over secondary or tertiary theological matters where faithful believers have historically held diverse views.
- It cultivates a spirit of suspicion and fear rather than faith, hope and love – the very virtues Scripture identifies as central to Christian character.
- It draws attention away from the transformative power of the Gospel and towards human personalities and cultural conflicts.
- It can become a subtle form of monetising outrage, turning righteous concerns into engagement metrics and advertising revenue.
Jesus gave us a clear mission in Matthew 28:19-20 KJV: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” This Great Commission contains no mandate to build platforms through controversy or to prioritise exposing others over expressing Christ.
At Back to Basics: Christian Living, we've made a covenant with our community to remain focused on what truly matters – teaching the Word faithfully, modelling Christ-like character, and equipping believers for works of service. We believe this approach may not always generate the highest view counts, but it will produce the fruit that genuinely honours God.
This doesn't mean we shy away from addressing difficult topics or speaking biblical truth when necessary. Rather, it means we approach every subject with humility, careful scholarship, and genuine love for those who may disagree.
We invite you to join us in this commitment to substance over sensation, to patient teaching over provocative takedowns, and to building up rather than tearing down. Together, let's create a community focused not on the latest controversy, but on the timeless Christ – the same yesterday, today and forever.
Our aim remains unchanging: to help you build your faith on biblical foundations, not shifting cultural sands. Thank you for walking this path with us…
Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2025…
Beware the Devil's Schemes: Standing Firm in These Last Days!
In today’s world, the church finds itself in the midst of a relentless spiritual battle. The devil, described as “a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8, KJV), is not content to simply oppose believers—he aims to deceive, distract, lead astray, and ultimately destroy the body of Christ. The survival and purity of the church is of utmost importance, and each of us is called to readiness and unwavering faith.
The enemy’s greatest weapons are deception and distraction. Jesus himself warned, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5, KJV). In these perilous times, false teachings, watered-down gospels, and worldly compromise have infiltrated many churches, giving the devil a strong foothold. The apostle Paul echoed this urgency: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth…” (2 Timothy 4:3-4, KJV).
We cannot afford to be complacent. The devil’s aim is to lead believers away from the truth, leaving them spiritually powerless and vulnerable. Jesus said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10, KJV). Sadly, in some instances, churches have already yielded so much ground that the fight seems lost. But for those of us who know the truth, the mandate is clear: we must stand at the forefront of the battle, “holding fast the faithful word” (Titus 1:9, KJV) and teaching future generations to “hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV).
How can we prepare for the battles ahead?
First, we must put on the whole armour of God, as instructed in Ephesians 6:11-13 (KJV): “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil… having done all, to stand.” This includes truth, righteousness, readiness from the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Secondly, we must remain alert, prayerful, and rooted in scripture. “Be sober, be vigilant” (1 Peter 5:8, KJV) is not a suggestion but a command to every believer. Prayer is our communication lifeline with God, and scripture is our guide and shield against error and temptation.
Lastly, we must support and encourage one another. “Exhort one another daily… lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13, KJV). Our unity and mutual encouragement are vital for withstanding the enemy’s attacks.
Church, let us not slumber while the enemy schemes. The time is urgent, and the battle is real. Let us answer the call, stand our ground, and pass on the unchanging truth of God’s Word to those who will come after us. “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13, KJV). The victory is the Lord’s, but the battle is ours to fight—until He comes!
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine
