Week 42

Week 42

Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!

Welcome to our Week 42 Round-up Sunday! As autumn deepens around us, we're thrilled to bring you another week of Christ-centred teachings designed to strengthen your walk with our Heavenly Father. This week's collection of messages particularly focuses on standing firm amidst life's challenges while fixing our eyes on the eternal hope we have in Christ.

From Monday's exploration of our eternal accountability before Christ to Friday's powerful examination of spiritual warfare, each teaching has been prayerfully prepared to equip you with biblical wisdom for these complex times. We're particularly excited about Thursday's message "Run to Christ!" which reminds us that in a world of shifting sands, Jesus remains our unshakeable refuge.

As you engage with these teachings across our platforms—whether through written blogs, YouTube videos, or social media—our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will illuminate these truths in your heart, transforming not just your understanding, but your daily living. Remember that we aren't called to merely survive in this fallen world, but to thrive as ambassadors of His Kingdom, offering the hope of Christ to those around us.

Let us approach this week with renewed commitment to excellence in all we do for our Heavenly Father. As Paul reminds us, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men" (Colossians 3:23 KJV). May these teachings inspire you to pursue nothing less than God's highest purpose for your life!

With anticipation for all God will do,

Dave & Elaine

Standing Firm in a Fallen World: Our Ultimate Hope in Christ!

As we journey through our teachings this week, a powerful theme emerges—navigating the spiritual challenges of living as believers in a fallen world while finding our ultimate hope and refuge in Christ. This week's content examines how Christians can maintain their distinct identity amidst increasing opposition to biblical values, understand the unseen spiritual battles we face, and recognise our need to seek salvation and redemption through Christ alone.

Scripture reminds us that we inhabit a world fundamentally broken by sin. As Paul writes, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23 KJV). This reality of sin creates the essential tension of Christian existence—living in a fallen world whilst belonging to God's kingdom. Our Tuesday teaching on "Sin, Repentance, Salvation" examines this foundational truth that forms the cornerstone of our relationship with Christ.

Yet even as we acknowledge this broken world, we must recognise the unseen spiritual forces that oppose believers. Friday's teaching explores how "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12 KJV). Understanding our enemy's tactics equips us to "put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians 6:11 KJV).

This awareness of spiritual opposition coincides with our Wednesday message examining how Christians can stand firm amidst cultural pressures. As Jesus prayed, we are "in the world, but not of the world" (John 17:11, 16 KJV). Our distinct identity requires wisdom to engage culture without compromising truth—"Be ye not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2 KJV).

Our Monday teaching confronts another sobering reality—believers will stand before Christ's judgement seat. This isn't punishment for sin, but evaluation of service, reminding us that "every one of us shall give account of himself to God" (Romans 14:12 KJV). This accountability should inspire holy living and eternal perspective.

Amidst these challenges, Thursday's teaching offers our ultimate hope—Christ Himself as our refuge. Just as cities of refuge provided sanctuary in the Old Testament, Christ offers salvation to all who run to Him. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 KJV).

Together, these teachings form a comprehensive framework for Christian living—recognising sin's reality, understanding spiritual warfare, maintaining our distinct identity, living with eternal accountability, and finding our ultimate hope in Christ alone. As the psalmist proclaimed, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1 KJV).

In a world increasingly hostile to biblical truth, these foundational principles empower us to "be stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV), knowing that our labour is not in vain when built upon the firm foundation of Christ…

The Judgement Seats of Christ!

Understanding Our Eternal Accountability!

What Awaits Every Christian!

The Judgement Seats of Christ - a profound exploration of how believers will one day stand before Christ not for salvation, but for an evaluation of our Christian service. This teaching carefully distinguishes between the Bema Seat judgement for believers (where works are tested like gold or straw in fire) and the Great White Throne judgement for unbelievers. Discover the biblical criteria Christ will use to assess our lives—our motives, words, stewardship and treatment of others—and learn about the five crowns Scripture promises as rewards for faithful service. Rather than inspiring fear, this teaching encourages us to live with purpose, knowing our Judge is also our Saviour who desires to say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." A balanced, scripture-rich examination of accountability that inspires holy living with eternal perspective…

Run to Christ!

The Only Hope in a Troubled World!

The World in Crisis: Why We Need Christ Now!

In "Run to Christ!" we explore the urgent call to seek salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Drawing parallels to Lot fleeing Sodom and cities of refuge in the Old Testament, this teaching emphasises that Christ is our only sanctuary from sin's consequences. Scripture clearly shows that Jesus is the exclusive path to God, contrary to today's pluralistic worldview. We examine what we're running from—sin's penalty and eternal separation from God—and what we're running towards—forgiveness, peace, and eternal life in relationship with our Heavenly Father. This message highlights the critical importance of responding now, not later, as tomorrow is promised to no one. Those who run to Christ discover not merely refuge, but the fullness of joy in His presence. The teaching concludes with a powerful reminder that salvation is found in Christ alone, urging readers to recognise their need, repent, and receive Him by faith without delay…

The Unseen Battle: The Nature of Our Enemy!

Understanding Our Spiritual Battle!

The Spiritual Battle: Understanding Our Enemy!

In this powerful teaching, we delve into the unseen spiritual battle that every believer faces. Drawing from Scripture, we examine Satan's origin as Lucifer, an angel who fell through pride and rebellion against God. We explore our adversary's defining characteristics—his pride, deception, accusations, and temptations—and reveal how he operates through a hierarchy of fallen angels to oppose God's kingdom.

Understanding the enemy's tactics is crucial for every Christian. Satan targets our minds, bodies, relationships, faith, and ministry through deception, accusation, temptation, opposition, distraction, and division. Yet amidst this sobering reality, we find tremendous hope. Through Christ's work on the cross, Satan stands as a defeated foe.

This teaching equips believers with biblical knowledge to recognise spiritual attacks and stand firm in faith. We emphasise that our understanding of the enemy isn't meant to inspire fear, but preparedness. As Scripture reminds us, "Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." Join us as we explore how to walk in the authority and victory that Christ has already secured for us in this unseen spiritual battle…

NEWS! Updates and announcements about Back to Basics: Christian living, including content changes, newsletters, website updates, and valuable information for our audience…

EXCITING NEWS: Back to Basics Expands to Video Format Across All Teaching Platforms!

In a significant enhancement to our ministry outreach, we are delighted to announce that all our weekly teaching blogs will now be available in video format on YouTube! This exciting development marks a new chapter in our mission to make biblical teaching more accessible and engaging for our growing community.

Starting this week, each of our beloved teaching series will be available on YouTube: "Something to Think About" (Mondays) and "Write This Down" (Wednesdays) "Messages from the Outpost" (Tuesdays and Thursdays), & "Back to Basics: Christian Living" (Fridays). All content will be simultaneously published as written blogs and video presentations on our YouTube channel.

This innovative "Read & Listen" approach offers multiple ways to engage with God's Word, catering to different learning preferences and lifestyles. Whether you prefer reading a thoughtful blog post during your lunch break, listening to teachings during your commute, or watching video content in the comfort of your home, we've got you covered!

"We recognise that people absorb information differently," explains David Waterhouse, founder of Back to Basics. "Some prefer the contemplative nature of reading, while others connect more deeply through visual and auditory experiences. By offering both formats, we hope to enhance understanding and retention of these vital Christian principles."

The video presentations will closely mirror the written content but may include additional visual elements, scripture displays, and personal delivery that brings the teachings to life in new ways. This dual-format approach is designed not only to make our content more accessible but also to deepen the impact of each teaching.

Both written and video versions will be shared across our social media platforms - Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram & TikTok - extending our reach to diverse audiences worldwide. This integrated approach allows you to engage with our content wherever you spend your digital time and easily share teachings with friends and family.

Most importantly, this expansion aligns with our fundamental mission: to encourage application of God's Word in daily life. As James 1:22 KJV reminds us, we must be "doers of the word, and not hearers only." The multi-sensory experience of both reading and watching these teachings aims to help truths sink deeper, inspiring practical application in your everyday walk with Christ.

"Our hope and belief," shares David, "is that this will enable you to be what God has chosen you to be in the Body of Christ - a doer and not only a hearer. When we engage with scripture through multiple senses, it often takes root more firmly in our hearts."

We invite you to experience this enhanced approach to biblical teaching by subscribing to our YouTube channel and following our social media accounts. Whether you're a long-time reader or new to our community, we're excited to journey with you in this enriched format, growing together in faith and practice.

Remember to enable notifications to stay updated with all our content releases, and please share your feedback as we continue to refine this integrated approach to ministry. Together, let's embrace God's Word in every format available to us, allowing it to transform not just our minds, but our daily actions as well.

To God be the glory as we utilise every tool available to spread His unchanging truth in our ever-changing world!

Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2025…

Living Kingdom Priorities in a Worldly Culture!

Are we living just like everybody else? Fallen man working for a wage to buy more stuff on a Saturday, showing up to Church on Sunday singing some happy clappy songs, and then dreading Monday morning? Are we constantly hoping the weekend comes soon, planning the Saturday night barbecue, and earning money primarily for that two-week holiday in the summer?

Or are we Kingdom freedom fighters working for Him—in the world but not part of it? This is the decision we must make each day: are we for Him or against Him?

I see too many believers living indistinguishably from those fallen in the world—prioritising "me time" and temporary pleasures rather than living their best life for Christ. Scripture is clear about this dichotomy: "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." (Matthew 6:24 KJV)

The Lord Jesus calls us to a radically different lifestyle: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." (Matthew 16:24-25 KJV) This challenges the self-centred consumption that drives our culture.

Too often, we've embraced a comfortable Christianity that demands little sacrifice and offers little distinction from the world around us. Yet the apostle Paul admonishes: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2 KJV)

Consider how we spend our time and resources. Are we investing primarily in temporary pleasures or eternal purposes? Are we more concerned with our weekend plans than Kingdom advancement? The prophet Isaiah spoke of those who "call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20 KJV)

As believers, we're called to a different standard: "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV) Our time, talents and treasures belong to the Lord—not simply to ourselves.

This doesn't mean Christians cannot enjoy life's blessings, but our priorities must reflect eternal values. The apostle John warns: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15 KJV)

True discipleship demands distinction. The early Christians turned the world upside down not by blending in, but by standing out—living counter-culturally with radical love and sacrifice. "These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also." (Acts 17:6 KJV)

Each day presents us with the same choice Joshua laid before Israel: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." (Joshua 24:15 KJV) Will we conform to cultural Christianity, with its weekend worship and weekday worldliness? Or will we embrace our identity as Kingdom citizens, ambassadors of Christ in a foreign land?

Let us remember that we are "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." (1 Peter 2:9 KJV)

The choice is yours daily—cultural comfort or Kingdom purpose…

With Christ's love,

Dave & Elaine
