The Truth About Walking in Love in the Church

In today's modern church, the concept of "love" has often been distorted to mean tolerance of sin, avoidance of correction, and a shallow sentimentality that bears little resemblance to the love described in God's Word. Yet when we examine Scripture, we discover that true biblical love is far more robust, demanding, and transformative than contemporary Christianity often presents.

The Apostle Paul commands believers to "walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour" (Ephesians 5:2 KJV). This verse establishes the foundation: Christ's sacrificial love is our model. His love was not passive acceptance but active sacrifice that pointed people toward truth and holiness.

Walking in love within the church begins with speaking the truth. Paul instructs us to be "speaking the truth in love" so that we "may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ" (Ephesians 4:15 KJV). Notice that truth and love are inseparable—one without the other produces either harsh legalism or permissive compromise. The modern church often emphasises feelings over truth, but biblical love always operates within the boundaries of God's revealed Word.

Furthermore, genuine love requires correction and accountability. "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness" (Galatians 6:1 KJV). This restoration process is an act of love, not judgement. The author of Hebrews reminds us that "whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth" (Hebrews 12:6 KJV). If God's love includes discipline, then our love for fellow believers must also include gentle correction when necessary.

Walking in love also means bearing one another's burdens. "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2 KJV). This practical love extends beyond mere words to tangible acts of service, support, and sacrifice. John emphasises this practical dimension: "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth" (1 John 3:17-18 KJV).

Perhaps most importantly, walking in love requires unity grounded in truth. Jesus prayed "that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us" (John 17:21 KJV). This unity, however, is not unity at any cost—it's unity centred on Christ and His Word. Paul warned against those who cause divisions "contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned" (Romans 16:17 KJV).

The modern church's version of love often prizes superficial harmony over biblical fidelity. But God's Word calls us to a love that is "without dissimulation" (Romans 12:9 KJV)—without hypocrisy or pretence. We must "abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good" (Romans 12:9 KJV).

True love in the church, according to God's Word, involves speaking truth, offering correction, bearing burdens, pursuing holiness, and maintaining unity around Christ. This is the love that builds up the body of Christ and glorifies God—not the watered-down sentiment that characterises much of contemporary Christianity…

The Gospel: God's Good News for You!

Discover the life-changing message that offers hope, forgiveness, & eternal life through Jesus Christ…

Introduction

The Gospel is God's solution to humanity's greatest problem: sin. All have sinned and are separated from God, facing spiritual death. But God, in His great love, sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross as our substitute, bearing the punishment we deserved. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death. Salvation is offered freely to all who repent and believe in Christ—not through our works, but by grace through faith. Those who trust in Jesus receive forgiveness, eternal life, peace with God, and are adopted as His children. The Gospel is not just history; it's God's good news for you today…

Walk in a Manner Worthy!

Standing Firm in Truth!

The Foundation of Spiritual Stability

In Ephesians 4:14 (KJV), Paul warns believers against spiritual immaturity that leaves them vulnerable to false teachings and deception. Like children tossed about by waves, those who lack grounding in Scripture can be easily swayed by appealing but dangerous doctrines promoted through cunning craftiness. The solution is to pursue spiritual maturity by anchoring ourselves firmly in God's Word, developing discernment through consistent study, and walking in a manner worthy of our calling in Christ. By growing up into Christ, maintaining unity in the Spirit, speaking truth in love, and testing all teachings against Scripture, we can stand firm against the deceptive winds of false doctrine that constantly threaten believers. This requires intentional discipline, accountability with mature believers, and reliance on the Holy Spirit's guidance as we fulfil our calling to be salt and light in a world filled with spiritual deception…

How To Get Closer To God?

Discover practical steps to deepen your relationship with God through prayer, Scripture, worship, and obedience…

Steps to Strengthen Your Walk with God

In our fast-paced modern world, many Christians find themselves longing for a deeper, more meaningful relationship with God. This teaching explores the timeless biblical principles that draw us closer to our Heavenly Father, revealing that intimacy with God isn't reserved for spiritual elites but is available to every believer who earnestly seeks Him. Through examining key spiritual disciplines—from the power of persistent prayer and immersing ourselves in Scripture to the transformative practice of worship and obedience—we discover that growing closer to God requires intentional choices and genuine devotion. Jesus modelled a life of constant communion with the Father, and His example invites us to cultivate that same intimacy through honest conversation with God, allowing His Word to transform our thinking, and demonstrating our love through faithful obedience. This message reminds us that God promises to meet every sincere seeker, assuring us that when we search for Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. As we embrace these spiritual practices—including the often-overlooked disciplines of silence, solitude, and humble confession—we position ourselves to experience the fullness of joy that comes from dwelling in God's presence. Whether you're just beginning your faith journey or seeking to rekindle a relationship that's grown distant, this teaching offers practical, biblical guidance for cultivating the intimate walk with God that your heart truly desires…

Walking by Faith, Not by Sight!

Trusting God's promises when we cannot see the path ahead…

The Foundation of Our Walk

Walking by faith rather than by sight is at the very heart of authentic Christian living. In a world that demands visible proof and tangible evidence before taking action, believers are called to a radically different way of life—one that trusts in God's promises even when circumstances seem to contradict them. This teaching explores the biblical foundation of faith, drawing from Hebrews 11:1 which defines faith as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". Through powerful examples like Abraham, Noah, and Moses, we discover that walking by faith isn't reserved for spiritual giants but is meant to be the normal Christian experience. When we choose to trust God's character and His word above our own limited understanding, we position ourselves to experience His supernatural peace, provision, and power. This message challenges us to examine whether we're truly living by faith in every area of our lives—our relationships, our work, our finances, and our responses to both blessings and trials. Whilst walking by faith isn't always easy and may require us to step out in obedience when it doesn't make logical sense, the rewards are immeasurable. As we fix our minds on God rather than our circumstances, we discover that His ways are indeed higher than our ways, and we become powerful witnesses to a world desperately seeking hope. Join us as we explore what it truly means to walk by faith, not by sight, and learn how to strengthen our faith through God's word and prayer…

The Unseen Battle: The Armour of God!

Standing Firm: Equipped for Victory in the Unseen Battle…

Standing Firm in Victory

In the Christian life, we face an invisible yet very real spiritual battle. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 KJV that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness. Yet God has not left us defenceless—He has provided complete spiritual armour to equip us for victory. This divine protection includes the belt of truth that holds everything together and exposes Satan's lies, the breastplate of righteousness that guards our hearts through Christ's imputed righteousness, and gospel-ready feet that give us firm footing to share the message of peace. We're equipped with the shield of faith to extinguish every fiery dart of doubt and temptation, the helmet of salvation to protect our minds with assurance of our security in Christ, and the sword of the Spirit—God's living Word—as our offensive weapon. All of this armour must be worn in an atmosphere of constant prayer, maintaining vital communication with our Commander. The key is not merely understanding this armour but deliberately putting it on each day, for our strength comes not from ourselves but from the Lord. When we stand firm in God's provision, victory is assured, because as Scripture declares, "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." This teaching explores each piece of armour in depth, showing how to apply these eternal truths practically in our daily spiritual warfare…

Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2025…

The Church Transformed: Following the Whole Counsel of God

The Apostle Paul declared to the Ephesian elders, "For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God" (Acts 20:27 KJV). This comprehensive approach to Scripture stands in stark contrast to much of today's modern church, which often selectively emphasises passages that align with contemporary preferences whilst neglecting difficult truths. If we truly followed the whole counsel of God, the church would be dramatically transformed.

A Return to Holiness & Separation

The modern church would embrace the biblical call to holiness: "Be ye holy; for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16 KJV). Rather than conforming to worldly standards, believers would understand that "friendship of the world is enmity with God" (James 4:4 KJV). This doesn't mean isolation, but rather maintaining distinct Christian character whilst engaging culture. Churches would actively teach about separation from sin, not merely tolerance of it, recognising that "a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump" (1 Corinthians 5:6 KJV).

Restored Church Discipline

Following Christ's instructions in Matthew 18:15-17 KJV, churches would practice loving but firm discipline. Paul's directive to "put away from among yourselves that wicked person" (1 Corinthians 5:13 KJV) would be implemented not vindictively, but redemptively. This accountability would protect both the church's testimony and create opportunities for genuine repentance and restoration, rather than enabling ongoing sin through silence.

Biblical Leadership Structure

Churches would return to the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1, appointing leaders based on spiritual maturity and biblical character rather than charisma, business acumen, or entertainment value. Paul's instruction that bishops must be "apt to teach" (1 Timothy 3:2 KJV) and "able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers" (Titus 1:9 KJV) would be taken seriously. The focus would shift from celebrity pastors to faithful shepherds.

Sound Doctrine Over Comfortable Messages

Rather than the "itching ears" syndrome Paul warned about (2 Timothy 4:3-4 KJV), churches would preach difficult truths alongside comforting ones. This includes clear teaching on sin, judgement, hell, repentance, and God's wrath—topics often avoided today. The full gospel encompasses both God's love and His justice, both grace and holiness. As Paul charged Timothy: "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:2 KJV).

Authentic Worship & Prayer

Worship would reflect Jesus's teaching that "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24 KJV). Rather than entertainment-focused services designed primarily for comfort or emotional manipulation, worship would be God-centred, biblically grounded, and characterised by reverence. Prayer would move beyond brief formalities to become the powerhouse Jesus described: "My house shall be called the house of prayer" (Matthew 21:13 KJV).

A church following the whole counsel of God would be radically different—more challenging, more demanding, yet ultimately more authentic and powerful. It would be a church that transforms rather than conforms, that speaks truth in love, and that genuinely reflects Christ to a watching world. The question remains: are we willing to embrace all of Scripture, not merely the portions that comfort us?

With Christ's love,

Dave & Elaine
