Joining the Dots: What's Changing at Back to Basics — and Why?

The Gap We Could No Longer Ignore

We have been publishing teaching for a long time now, and by the grace of God a great deal of it has gone out: blogs most mornings, videos on the channel, shorts, posts, newsletters. But if we are honest with you — and honesty has always been part of what we do here — there was a gap in the middle of it all that we could not keep ignoring. People were reading a teaching and never knowing there was a video that went with it. People were watching a video and never finding the fuller teaching behind it. Somebody would take a real step of obedience in their own home on a Tuesday and have no way of telling anybody about it, and no idea that hundreds of others were walking the very same week with them. Four good things — reading, seeing, doing and sharing — all happening, and hardly any of them joined up. That is not a small problem. It is the difference between a stream of content that washes past a person and a place where a person can actually stand, grow and belong.

And it matters because of what the Word is for. Scripture was never given to be admired at a distance, filed away or scrolled past: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV]. Read that last part again — hearing without doing does not simply leave a person unchanged, it leaves them deceived, feeling fed while nothing in their life has moved an inch. So if the way we publish makes it easy to read and hard to do, then the way we publish is working against the very thing we are here for. That conviction is what has driven everything we are about to describe.

Read, See, Do, Share — One Loop Instead of Four Piles

So we have gone back to basics with the ministry itself, and rebuilt it around one simple loop with four movements. Read — the teaching blog carries the doctrine and the depth, the Word opened plainly for anybody. See — the matching video says the same truth to the eye and the ear, for the person who will never sit down with a thousand words but will happily watch for five minutes on a break. Do — every teaching and every video now ends with one clear step of obedience, small enough to be taken the same day, so the truth leaves the screen and enters the week. Share — you are given the words and the link to pass it on to one person, and Sunday's Christian Compass gathers the whole week into one place you can send to somebody who missed it.

The point of the loop is that nothing is isolated and nothing is a dead end. Every teaching still stands fully on its own, while each part of the wider ministry hands you on to the next. The blog points to its video, the video sends you back to the Word for yourself, the Word tells you what to do, and doing it gives you something worth saying to somebody else. That is not a marketing idea borrowed from the world; it is the pattern the early church was already living in — And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers [Acts 2:42 KJV]. Teaching, togetherness and prayer, repeated until it became a way of life. And it is aimed at one outcome only, the verse this whole ministry is framed around: That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God [Colossians 1:10 KJV].

What You'll See Changing

Some of this you will notice straight away and some of it will simply make life easier without you ever thinking about it. There is a settled weekly rhythm now: four teachings Monday to Thursday on one subject, so that by Thursday night you have not read four unrelated articles but been taught one truth from four sides; Friday carries the teaching series, part by part; and Sunday brings the weekend send — now called The Christian Compass — looking back over the week with one verse and one step to carry, then opening up the week ahead. Every teaching will have its video linked, and every video will point back to the full teaching, the website and the socials — no more hunting about for the other half of something. We experimented on X with combining the two daily posts into one to see what would happen, and it worked. Because of that, our daily social post is now one post instead of two across every platform we publish to — Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram and YouTube — so the reason a teaching was written and the way in to read it finally travel together. And there will be a proper front door for anyone new or anyone starting again — a Start Here page on the blog, with the seven teachings to read first, and a video playlist of the same name to watch alongside them.

What will not change is the ground it all stands on. The Bible, quoted exactly and never paraphrased or modernised to suit the times. God as our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ as His Son, our Lord and the Head of the church, and the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of God given to believers. Plain teaching over entertainment, and no worldly spirituality mixed in. Every piece standing on its own, so that whoever arrives at part three of a series still gets the full teaching, the full verse and their own step to take. The system serves the doctrine; it will never be allowed to bend it.

Your Part in It — And Yes, We Mean Yours

Here is the part we want to say plainly, because a ministry is not an audience. None of this works if it stays a broadcast. It works when you read, watch, do the step and then tell one person. That is how the gospel has always travelled — not by campaigns, but by Andrew fetching his brother and Philip saying three words to Nathanael: Come and see [John 1:46 KJV]. It is also how it was handed to us: And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also [2 Timothy 2:2 KJV]. You do not need answers to every question. You only need to know where to point.

So talk to us. Reply to the emails — we read them. Comment under the videos, tell us what you are wrestling with, ask the question you think is too simple to ask, and above all write and tell us what God has done when you took a step of obedience. With permission, those accounts will start appearing in The Christian Compass, because nothing strengthens a tired believer like a real report of the Word working in a real life. And when something helps you, do not keep it — send it to one person who is tired, drifting or quietly hungry for the Word.
