Week 27
Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!
Welcome back. This week we go right back to basics on the one thing every believer does, and few of us feel we do well — prayer.
Across five days we'll take it apart and put it back together: not as a duty to tick off, but as the very breath of the Christian life. We begin in the secret place and we end on our knees for others — because a faith built on prayer is a faith that stands.
Pray without ceasing [1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV] — three small words that shape everything below.
Inside this week's Round-up:
• The Whole Life of Prayer — our opening teaching: why prayer is one life, not four separate acts.
• Five daily teachings — Pray Without Ceasing (Mon), Finding Time for Prayer & Hearing God's Voice (Tue), Prayer That Actually Works (Wed), Praying for Victory (Thu), and Part Five — Feed, Guard, Care (Fri).
• YouTube & Podcasts — the full week's line-up across our playlists, plus the Blazing Apostles and Saturday Conversations podcasts.
• News: Heatwaves & Headlines — keeping your foundation steady when the world sets the agenda.
• The Praying Shepherd — our closing teaching: why you cannot truly care for anyone you are not first praying for.
So don't rush it. Read slowly, pray as you go, and let this week's Word become this week's walk. Don't just be a hearer — be a doer.
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine

The Whole Life of Prayer
Why prayer is not one act, but a whole way of living before God…
We are about to spend a week on prayer — four teachings, four angles. And there is a danger whenever we break a thing into parts: we start to think the parts are separate. They are not. Prayer is not four activities. It is one life.
Look at how the threads weave together. To pray without ceasing is to keep the line open all day. But a line is two-way — so prayer is also listening, making room to hear the One we are speaking to. And true prayer is never worked up by our own feelings; it is led by the Spirit, who prays in us and through us it carries authority — the bold faith that lays hold of heaven for healing and for victory.
One life, four faces: speaking, listening, yielding, believing.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit [Ephesians 6:18 KJV]. Notice Paul's "all" — all prayer, all supplication. He is describing not a slot but an atmosphere. The believer who only prays in a crisis has misunderstood the whole thing. Prayer is the air, not the ambulance.
And here is the part we most often miss: much of prayer is listening. We are quick to talk and slow to be still. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear [Matthew 11:15 KJV]. The Lord still speaks to those who quieten themselves long enough to hear Him. Half of prayer is shutting our own mouth.
Then there is the engine. We cannot manufacture real prayer by emotion. …the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities… the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us [Romans 8:26 KJV]. The prayer that moves heaven is not the loudest or the most tearful — it is the one through a yielded believer. That is why feeling spiritual and praying with power are not the same thing.
And when the Spirit leads, He leads us into bold faith — for healing, for victory, for the impossible. …with his stripes we are healed [Isaiah 53:5 KJV]. We do not pray as beggars hoping; we pray as children asking a Father who's Son already paid the price at the cross.
So do not file next week's four teachings in four separate drawers. Live them as one. Open the line in the morning and keep it open. Stop and listen as much as you speak. Lean on the Spirit, not your mood. And ask boldly — because the One you ask is your Father.
That is the whole life of prayer. And it is meant for ordinary people on ordinary days…

Pray without ceasing!
Prayer was never meant to be a slot in your day — it is the air a believer breathes…

Three words that change everything
Paul's three-word command — Pray without ceasing — calls us not to constant kneeling, but to constant fellowship. Prayer is the air the believer breathes: a running conversation with a Father who is always listening and never too busy. We begin by building prayer as a habit until it becomes an atmosphere, leaning all the while on the Spirit who prays within us. The real question is not whether we can pray without ceasing, but whether we will walk with God today — keeping the line open from the kitchen sink to the school run, hour by ordinary hour…

Finding Time for Prayer & Hearing God's Voice
In a world of constant distraction, are we making time not just to pray, but to hear God's answer?

The Battle Between Praying & Listening
In a world full of noise, notifications, and constant demands, it can feel almost impossible to find time not only to pray, but to truly hear God’s voice. This teaching blog, Finding Time for Prayer & Hearing God’s Voice, explores the real spiritual battle between distraction and devotion, showing from Scripture why listening is an essential part of prayer, not an optional extra. With clear Bible-based encouragement and practical guidance, it will help you slow down, quiet your heart, and make room for the Lord to speak peace, direction, and truth as you seek Him wholeheartedly…

Prayer That Actually Works: Moving from Emotional Words to Spiritual Results
Why feeling spiritual is not the same as praying with kingdom authority…

When Prayer Sounds Powerful but Nothing Changes
This teaching exposes the difference between emotional, soulish praying and genuine, Spirit-empowered prayer that produces tangible results. It calls believers to stop measuring prayer by how they feel and start measuring it by whether the Holy Spirit is leading, revelation is being released, and faith is actively pulling answers from heaven into earth. Prayer is not self-therapy or theatrical performance — it is a spiritual transaction backed by the authority of the written Word and the leadership of the indwelling Spirit. When we yield our tongue, our mind, and our agenda to the Holy Ghost, our prayers move from vague religious language to targeted, heaven-authorized declarations that shift circumstances and manifest the kingdom of God in real life…

Praying for Victory!
Healing the Sick in a Dying World!

The Difference Between Pain Management & True Healing
In a world of pain management without cure, the believer's hope rests not in human systems but in the Great Physician. Jesus came to heal bodies as well as to save souls, and that healing was purchased at the cross — with his stripes we are healed. We honour medical skill, but we refuse to limit God to it. Praying in the authority of Jesus' name, with expectant, unwavering faith, we come boldly to the throne of grace and walk in the victory already won over sickness and death…

Part Five - Feed, Guard, Care
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock [1 Peter 5:2–3 KJV].

Picking up where Part Four left off…
Under-shepherding is not a title — it is a way of living. It is plain, it is costly, and it is built on three pillars that hold one another up: feed, guard, care. Feed the sheep real food — the Word of God, plainly taught, practically applied. Guard them against false doctrine and the wolf inside — love wearing armour. Care for them by name — visit, phone, pray, show up. Most under-shepherding is not done from a stage; it is done over a kettle, in a hospital ward, on a doorstep, in a phone call you didn't really have time to make. Most shepherds don't fail from lack of love — they fail from lack of rhythm. So put it on one. Daily with the Chief Shepherd. Weekly with those He has given you. Monthly in honest review. Always in humble dependence on the Holy Ghost. The Lord Jesus is not asking for cleverer programmes — He is asking for shepherds with His heart. Lovest thou me? … Feed my sheep. If we love Him, we will feed them, guard them, and care for them. May He find us faithful…

Heatwaves & Headlines — When the World Sets Our Agenda…
A nation talks of nothing but the weather and the World Cup — but what is holding up your foundation while it does?
Open any paper this week and two stories are shouting for your attention. Above us, a heatwave — Britain baking, tempers fraying, sleep stolen, and everyone an expert on the forecast. Across the Atlantic, the FIFA World Cup — stadiums packed from coast to coast in America, a billion eyes fixed on a ball, and the pundits speaking of football as though a tournament might finally heal the divisions of the world.
Two events. And between them they have set the agenda for nearly every conversation in the land.
Now, there is nothing sinful about sunshine or sport. The Lord made the summer; He gives us good things to enjoy. But notice how easily we are pulled. How quickly the weather governs our mood and the league table governs our talk. How fast our peace rises and falls with a temperature and a final score.
That is the warning hidden inside an ordinary week. The world is forever offering our souls something to feed on that is not God — and the flesh is forever hungry for it. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him [1 John 2:15 KJV]. John is not banning sunshine or forbidding football. He is exposing a hunger — the soul's craving to be satisfied by what is passing away. The heat will break. The tournament will end. The trophy will be lifted and half-forgotten by next season. And if our inner weather has been rising and falling with all of it, we have built our peace on sand.
Then there is the talk. Two big events always breed a third thing — endless chatter. And chatter, left unguarded, slides quickly into gossip: opinions about players, judgement of managers, of neighbours, of the person three doors down. …some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies [2 Thessalonians 3:11 KJV]. An idle tongue always finds a subject. Give it a heatwave and a World Cup, and it will never run short of material.
So what disrupts our foundation is rarely a crisis. It is distraction — a steady drip of the trivial, until the things of God feel dull and the things of the world feel thrilling. A believer can lose a whole summer that way; not to scandal, but to noise.
The remedy is not retreat. You needn't boycott the sunshine or refuse to watch a match. The remedy is a foundation that does not move when the headlines do. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth [Colossians 3:2 KJV]. Enjoy the summer — but don't let it govern you. Watch the football — but don't let it disciple you. Talk with people — but guard your tongue from the slide into gossip.
The world will always have a headline. The only question is whether your soul is feeding on it, or on Him…
Venezuela — When the Earth Itself Groans…
Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Venezuela after this week's earthquake.
News has reached us of a powerful earthquake in Venezuela, and our first response is not analysis but prayer. We lift up the people there — the frightened, the grieving, the ones searching the rubble for those they love. We pray for protection, for rescue, for comfort, and for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be a present hope in the middle of the shaking.
But a moment like this also reminds us of something Scripture told us long ago. When sin entered the world, it did not only wound mankind — it wounded creation itself. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now [Romans 8:22 KJV]. The earth moans and groans under the weight of a fallen world, and it will go on doing so until the day our Lord returns to make all things new.
So we do not look at such things and lose heart. We pray for Venezuela now, with all our love — and we lift our eyes to the One who is coming. Behold, I make all things new [Revelation 21:5 KJV].
Please join us in praying for Venezuela this week.

The Praying Shepherd
Why you cannot feed, guard or care for anyone you are not first praying for…
The week ends where it should — with shepherding. Feed, guard, care. But set Friday's teaching beside Monday's and a question rises: where does a shepherd find the strength to do it? The honest answer is the one we tend to skip. On our knees.
You cannot lead people higher than you have been yourself. You cannot feed sheep on food you have not eaten. And you cannot carry people you are not praying for. Every faithful under-shepherd in Scripture was first a man or woman of prayer.
Think of the apostles. When the work grew and the demands multiplied, they did not say, "We will work harder." They said, …we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word [Acts 6:4 KJV]. Prayer first, then the Word, then the work. Get that order wrong, and shepherding shrinks into mere management.
And notice — much of shepherding is prayer. To guard the flock is to pray against the wolf. To care for the wounded is to carry their names to the throne when they cannot carry themselves. Samuel went so far as to call neglecting it a sin: God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you [1 Samuel 12:23 KJV]. Read that again. To stop praying for those in your care is not a scheduling slip — it is a sin.
This is where the whole week joins hands. The same prayer the Lord taught us to breathe without ceasing, to offer in the Spirit, to pray in bold faith — that prayer is the hidden engine of all true care for others. The shepherd who does not pray has nothing to give but his own cleverness, and sheep cannot live on that.
So whom has God placed in your care? It may not be a congregation. It may be a spouse, your children, a friend who is struggling, one younger believer. Whoever they are, you shepherd them first in the secret place. Feed them — but pray before you teach. Guard them — but pray against what you cannot see. Care for them — but let the care begin in intercession, not just activity.
The Lord Jesus Himself, the Chief Shepherd, prayed for His own — I pray for them [John 17:9 KJV] — and intercedes for us still. If the Shepherd of our souls prays for those in His care, who are we to shepherd anyone without it?
Don't let the week pass as mere information about prayer. Pick up one name. Carry it to the Father today. That is where feeding, guarding and caring all begin…
