Week 28
Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!
Week 28 — one foundation, one walk, one week of the Word opened plainly...
Welcome to this week's Round-up. If there's a single thread running through everything below, it's this: the Christian life stands or falls on the Word of God — heard, and done [James 1:22 KJV]. This week we build on it, then we walk it out, one day at a time.
Here's what's coming your way:
• Monday: Do We Listen? — a hard, honest look at whether we truly hear one another, and God.
• Tuesday: Gossip in a Spiritual Disguise! — unmasking soulish chit-chat that hides behind a holy coat.
• Wednesday: Mercy Has a Big Part to Play in Our Christian Lives! — mercy as the Gospel lived out, not a nice extra.
• Thursday: Can You Recover From Being Hurt in the Church? — the wound is real, but it was never meant to be your home.
• Friday: What Is a Christian Man? — Part 1 of a brand-new series: identity before activity, sonship before strength.
Alongside the daily teaching you'll find a full line-up on our YouTube channel, both podcasts — Blazing Apostles and Saturday Conversations — and an honest word from behind the scenes in this week's News.
With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine

The One Foundation
What you build on decides what you can build…
Ask any builder and they will tell you the same thing: a house is only ever as strong as what it stands on. Get the foundation wrong and it does not matter how fine the walls look — one storm and the whole thing moves. The Lord said it plainly. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock [Matthew 7:24 KJV].
Look back over this week's teaching and you will see one foundation running under all of it — the Word of God, heard and done.
We began by asking a simple question: do we truly listen? Scripture answers before we do — let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak [James 1:19 KJV]. The man who answers a matter before he hears it is not wise; it is folly and shame unto him [Proverbs 18:13 KJV]. And if faith itself cometh by hearing [Romans 10:17 KJV], then learning to listen is not a soft skill — it is the ground faith grows in.
The same foundation governs the tongue. Gossip in a holy coat is still gossip, and the Rock does not bend to make room for it. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying [Ephesians 4:29 KJV]. Build on the Word and you will speak to mend, not to wound.
Mercy and church hurt filled the middle of the week, and both rest on the same stone. We forgive because we were forgiven — even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you [Ephesians 4:32 KJV]. The wound is real, but bitterness is a poor foundation for a life. Lay it down on the Rock and walk on.
And it all gathers up in Friday's question — what is a Christian man? Identity before activity. Beloved, now are we the sons of God [1 John 3:2 KJV]. You do not build sonship by striving; you build your striving on sonship already given.
One foundation holds the whole week together: For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ [1 Corinthians 3:11 KJV].

Part 1 - Do We Listen?
When people talk, are we truly listening — or just waiting to talk, hoping they will listen to us?

A Hard Look at Ourselves
Most of us do far more talking than listening — we hear words while we load our reply. But Scripture tells us to be swift to hear and slow to speak, and warns that answering before we have listened is folly and shame. True listening is love: it looks on the things of others, not just our own. And the question runs deeper still — if we struggle to listen to one another, how well do we listen to God? We are quick to talk at Him, slow to be still and hear His Word. Yet faith comes by hearing. So let us learn the posture of a servant: swift to hear, slow to speak, and ready to say, "Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth."

Part 2 - Gossip in a Spiritual Disguise!
When soulish chit-chat dresses itself up as discernment — and the grievous harm it leaves behind…

A Sin With a Holy Coat
Gossip has learned to slip into the church wearing a holy coat — passed off as a prayer request, a warning, or discernment. But it is natural, soulish man talking, not the Spirit. It feels spiritual only because of where it is spoken. In truth it builds nothing, edifies no one, and brings grievous, lasting harm to the very people it targets. The Spirit edifies and covers; the whisper divides and wounds. The way of Christ is to go privately to the person to restore them, to speak only what ministers grace, and to bridle the tongue — for the one who cannot is only seeming religious. Guard your tongue, and you guard the body of Christ…

Part 3 - Mercy Has a Big Part to Play in Our Christian Lives!
The mercy we've received from God is the mercy we're called to give…

Mercy isn't a "nice extra" — it's the Gospel lived out
Mercy has a big part to play in our Christian lives because mercy is what saved us — and mercy is what should shape us. It’s not weakness, and it’s not compromise. It’s Christlike strength, guided by compassion and anchored in truth. And in the everyday moments where we’re tempted to be sharp, proud, impatient, or cold, mercy is one of the clearest ways to show that Jesus is Lord in our life…

Part 4 - Can You Recover From Being Hurt in the Church?
The wound is real — but it was never meant to become your home…

The wound is real
Being hurt in the church is real, and the pain matters — but it was never meant to become a permanent home or a badge of honour. The difference between those who recover and those who stay stuck is not the size of the wound, but what they do with it: whether they hand it to God and walk on, or carry it back out and let it root into bitterness. Forgiveness is obedience, not weakness; healing is God's work, not ours. Lay the wound down at His feet, receive the new heart He promises, and press forward to walk worthy of the Lord…

Part 1 — What Is a Christian Man?
Identity before activity. Sonship before strength…

Series introduction…
The world has a hundred definitions of a man — most of them wrong. The Bible has one. A Christian man is a born-again son of God, a member of the body of Christ, growing up into the fulness of Christ. Identity comes before activity. Sonship comes before strength. Until a man settles the question of who he is in Christ, he will spend his life trying to earn what God has already given him. Settle it on the Word, and you have the foundation for everything else — the home, the church, the walk, and the war…

Battling the Machine: Producing God's Word in an AI-Hungry World
This week's honest word from behind the scenes…
It has been a battle this week — and not the sort you win with a better broadband connection.
Every tool we lean on to get the Word out — the platforms, the editors, the schedulers, the sites we upload to — is being quietly rebuilt around one idea: artificial intelligence at the centre of everything. The tech companies are not hiding it. They are racing to become "AI-first," reshaping their products, their pricing, and their priorities around the machine. What used to simply work now nudges, prompts, and pushes you toward letting the algorithm do the thinking for you.
And so the week has been slow going. Uploads that should take minutes have taken hours. Familiar tools have shifted overnight. More time has been spent wrestling the technology than teaching through it. If you have felt that same drag in your own work this week — you are not imagining it.
But here is the thing worth writing down.
There is nothing wrong with a tool. A hammer builds a house or breaks a window; the hand decides. The danger is not the machine — it is the mindset behind it. A world that wants AI at the centre of everything is, whether it knows it or not, offering us a new middleman between us and the truth. And we already have a Mediator. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus [1 Timothy 2:5 KJV].
We will use the tools. We will not bow to them. The moment convenience starts editing conviction — the moment a machine decides what is "engaging" enough to say about the Lord — is the moment we switch it off and open the Book instead.
So this week's slow going has been a quiet reminder: the power was never in the platform. Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts [Zechariah 4:6 KJV]. The technology will keep changing under our feet. The Word will not. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever [Isaiah 40:8 KJV].
We would rather bring you something plain and true and late than something slick and empty and on time. That is the battle worth fighting — and it is one we are glad to keep fighting for you.
Keep the tools in your hand. Keep Christ on the throne…

The Road We Walk
From hearing to doing — one step at a time…
The Christian life is not a monument you visit once; it is a road you walk every day. Paul prayed it over us — that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work [Colossians 1:10 KJV]. A journey is made of steps, and this week handed us five of them.
Before we go anywhere, we learn to be still. Most of us talk far more than we listen — to one another, and to God. But the servant's heart says, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth [1 Samuel 3:9 KJV]. You cannot follow a voice you will not stop to hear.
The tongue can carry us forward or trip up everyone walking with us. Gossip dressed as discernment is still a stumbling block. The way of Christ is to speak grace and mend quietly — for the one who seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue only deceives his own heart [James 1:26 KJV].
No one walks far carrying grudges. Mercy is not weakness; it is the very road the Lord has asked us to keep — to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God [Micah 6:8 KJV]. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7 KJV].
Every honest traveller meets a wound in the church at some point. The wound is real — but it was never meant to become your home. Hand it to God, receive the new heart He promises, and press on. Bitterness builds a tent where the Lord meant you to keep walking.
And under every step is the settled question of identity. You do not walk to become a son; you walk because you already are one. Settle that on the Word, and the whole road starts to make sense.
That is the journey — listening, speaking, forgiving, healing, and walking as a son. Not a sprint, not a single decision, but a daily doing of the Word we hear [James 1:22 KJV].
