Week 29

Week 29

Your Weekly Round-up Sunday!

Welcome to Week 29. This week we ask one plain question: are we still standing on the old paths, or have we quietly drifted?

We open with a fresh teaching — The Old Paths — Where Faith Finds Its Foundation — a call to check the ground beneath your feet and build your life on the Word that never shifts. It sets the tone for everything that follows.

Then, day by day, we bring it home:

This week's teaching line-up:

  • Monday — The Church at a Crossroads! Two roads lie ahead; only one holds the truth.
  • Tuesday — The Church Cannot Stay Silent Any Longer! When sound doctrine is traded for mixed messages, God's people suffer.
  • Wednesday — Why Won't the Church Be Told What to Do? When talking replaces teaching, obedience quietly dies.
  • Thursday — Back from the Brink: The Church Needs a New Reformation! When the wolves are leading the flock, it's time to come back to the Word.
  • Friday — Part 2: The Man God Calls Worthy. Worthy isn't perfect; worthy is fitting.

Alongside the blogs you'll find our full YouTube line-up, podcast conversations with Dave & Elaine, and a searching News reflection — When the Soul Runs the Service — on worship led by the Spirit rather than the emotions.

And we close where every week must land: with Your Faith Journey — A Walk, Not a Feeling — a reminder that faith is proved not by how it feels but by how it walks, one obedient step at a time.

That's the heartbeat of it all — But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only [James 1:22 KJV]. Back to the Word, back to Christ, back to basics.

With Christ's love,
Dave & Elaine

The Old Paths — Where Faith Finds Its Foundation

Every life is built on something. Only one foundation holds when the storm breaks…

Every building stands or falls on one thing: its foundation. You cannot see it once the walls go up, but it decides everything. And what is true of houses is true of faith.

Jesus said it plainly. Two men built. Two houses stood. One heard the Word and did it; the other heard and did nothing. When the storm came, only one was left standing — and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock [Matthew 7:25 KJV]. Both men heard. Both faced the same weather. The difference was not knowledge but obedience. The rock was never the sermon; the rock was the doing.

The modern church is being coaxed off its foundation, brick by brick. Not by open attack, but by quiet compromise — a softened word here, a borrowed idea there — until the ground beneath our feet is no longer the Word at all.

God's remedy is not new. It is old. Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls [Jeremiah 6:16 KJV]. Stand. See. Ask. Walk. Four plain steps back to solid ground. The old paths are not out of date; they are the only paths that hold when the storm breaks.

A foundation you keep adjusting is no foundation at all. Scripture does not bend to culture, opinion, or trend — it stands over them. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven [Psalm 119:89 KJV].

Build on anything else and you build on sand. Feelings shift. Crowds move on. Fashions fade. But the Word remains, and the life founded upon it remains with it. So test everything you are fed. Does it match the Book? Does it lead you to obey, or merely to feel? Sound doctrine is not cold — it is kind. It keeps you standing when everything around you gives way.

You do not lay a foundation in a day; you lay it one brick at a time. One passage read. One command obeyed. One compromise refused. That is how faith is built on rock — not in a rush of feeling, but in a steady walk of obedience.

Check your ground today. If it has shifted, come back. The old paths are still open, and the good way still leads home — back to the Word, back to Christ, back to basics…

The Church at a Crossroads!

Two roads lie ahead. One holds the truth. The other drifts into false doctrine. Which will the church walk?

At the Crossroads

The church faces a genuine parting of the ways: the road of unchanging truth or the road of slow compromise into false doctrine. Error seduces rather than attacks, so the danger is real and quiet. God's remedy is to stand, look, ask for the old paths, and walk in them — choosing the truth today and living it out in daily obedience…

The Church Cannot Stay Silent Any Longer!

When sound doctrine is traded for mixed messages, God’s people suffer — and God’s word is dishonoured…

When the pulpit grows quiet

Many churches have blended Old Testament and New Testament teaching in a way that produces confusion, fear, and bondage. The Bible commands us to rightly divide the word of truth, and to preach Christ clearly — grace, sonship, and sound doctrine. The church must speak again with scriptural clarity, because error harms believers and obscures the gospel…

Why Won't the Church Be Told What to Do?

When talking replaces teaching, obedience quietly dies…

A strange thing about obedience

The modern church will sit through almost anything except a plain call to obey — and that fear of offending has turned teaching into mere talking. Yet telling us how to live is exactly what the Bible does on every page. Grace is not a licence to drift; it is a teacher that trains us to walk worthy. Truth may sting, but a wound from the Word is mercy. The way back is simple: stop being hearers only, take the plain Word, and do it…

Back from the Brink: The Church Needs a New Reformation!

When the wolves are leading the flock, it's time to come back to the Word…

Have we wandered from the old paths?

The modern church is in danger — not mainly from the world outside, but from wolves within who feed on the flock instead of feeding it. When a church follows them, it leaves its foundation and its path is doomed. But the Lord who warns us also calls us home. We don't need a revolution that tears everything down; we need a reformation that returns us to the old paths — back to the Word, back to Christ, back to basics. And it doesn't start with the wolves. It starts with one believer choosing to be a doer of the Word…

Part 2 — The Man God Calls Worthy

Worthy isn't perfect. Worthy is fitting…

There is a word the world has almost completely forgotten, but God has not.

Worthy

The world tells a man to be impressive. God tells him to walk worthy. "Worthy" doesn't mean perfect — it means fitting; a walk that matches the calling God has given in Christ. The calling comes first; the walk follows. It shows up not on the platform, but in the ordinary corners of a man's life — work, home, phone, mouth, heart. And it travels with fruitfulness. A Christian man is not measured by his worst moment, but by the direction of his life: a slow, faithful, Spirit-empowered walk that, over time, matches the One who called him…

When the Soul Runs the Service: What Happens When Worship Isn't Led by the Spirit?

A first-hand reflection on a service that stirred the emotions but seemed to miss the Spirit of God…

I sat in a church service this week and came away troubled. Not because the room lacked energy — it had plenty. Not because the people lacked sincerity — I don't doubt their hearts. I came away troubled because what I watched appeared to be run entirely by the soul, not the Spirit — and yet, at every turn, it was confidently called "of the Lord."

Man is made of three parts: spirit, soul and body. The soul is the seat of the mind, the will and the emotions. The spirit is where God meets us and leads us. Both are real, but only one is meant to be in the driving seat of worship. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth [John 4:24 KJV].

When the soul takes the wheel, a service can still feel powerful. There can be swelling music, raised voices, tears and applause. But feeling moved is not the same as being led. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit [John 3:6 KJV].

There was little sign of preparation and little sign of waiting on God. The Word was thin. The direction seemed to come from atmosphere and adrenaline, not from the leading of the Holy Ghost. And when it was over, it was declared, without hesitation, to be a move of God.

That's the part that ought to sober us. It is possible to have all the outward signs and none of the inward substance — having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof [2 Timothy 3:5 KJV]. It is possible to draw near with the lips while the heart stays at a distance — This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me [Matthew 15:8 KJV].

Soul-led religion produces excitement without fruit. It leaves people entertained but not built, stirred but not changed. The natural man cannot manufacture the things of God by effort or emotion — the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God… because they are spiritually discerned [1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV].

The answer is not more noise, more hype, or more polish. It is surrender and dependence: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts [Zechariah 4:6 KJV]. If we want services that build believers rather than merely excite them, we must stop leaning on atmosphere and start waiting on the Spirit — prepared, prayerful, and led by Him…

Christian Manhood — A New Series Begins

What does the Bible actually say it means to be a Christian man?

Something has gone quiet in the church: plain, biblical teaching on Christian manhood. The world is loud on the subject — alphas, hustle, image, "be your own man" — but the world cannot tell a man who he is, because it does not know the One who made him. So we go back to basics.

We've already begun. Back to Basics: Christian Living launched an eight-part series on Christian manhood on Friday 10th July, with a new part published every Friday — so if you missed the opening part, go back and read it before the next lands. It is not a culture-war series but a discipleship one: no machismo, no posturing, just the Word of God opened plainly and brought into a man's everyday life.

The road runs on three words. The Word — what God says a Christian man is: before he is husband, father, worker or warrior, he is a born-again son of God. The Walk — how he lives, day after ordinary day, in prayer, in his home, in the church. The War — what he fights and how he overcomes, knowing his hardest battle is his own flesh, and his victory is in standing, not attacking.

Every part lands the same way — with one clear step of obedience — because the goal was never information: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only [James 1:22 KJV]. And beneath it all runs the charge: Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong [1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV].

Eight parts. One aim. To stop drifting — and start standing…

Back to Basics: Christian Living - Your Faith Journey. We're excited to share insights and practical guidance to help strengthen your faith journey in 2026…

Your Faith Journey — A Walk, Not a Feeling

Faith was never meant to be admired from a seat — it was made to be walked…

Somewhere along the way we started measuring faith by how it feels. A stirring song. A moving moment. A good service. But God never measures your faith by your feelings. He measures it by your walk.

Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves [James 1:22 KJV]. Read that last phrase again. A hearer who does not do is not merely stalling — he is deceived. He thinks he is further along than he is.

Your faith journey is not made of dramatic leaps. It is made of ordinary steps, taken in ordinary places — your work, your home, your phone, your mouth, your heart. That is where the walk is proved.

Paul prayed that we would walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work [Colossians 1:10 KJV]. "Worthy" does not mean perfect. It means fitting — a walk that matches the calling. The calling comes first; the walk follows, one faithful step at a time.

You will stumble. Every believer does. But a Christian is not measured by his worst moment; he is measured by the direction of his life. For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again [Proverbs 24:16 KJV].

The question is not whether you have fallen. The question is which way you are facing when you get up. Still turned towards Christ? Then keep walking.

This is not a journey you make on your own strength. The flesh will pull you one way; the Spirit will lead you another. Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh [Galatians 5:16 KJV].

Every morning you choose again whose lead you will follow. Feelings rise and fall. Circumstances change. But the Spirit within you is steady, and patient, and He will not stop until the walk matches the calling.

So do not ask today, "How do I feel?" Ask, "How am I walking?" Take one command you have been hearing but not doing — and do it. That is how the journey moves forward: not by feeling more, but by obeying more.

The Christian life was never meant to be admired from a seat. It was meant to be walked — step after faithful step, all the way home…
